Spouse has a dilemma.

First, for background, she's had back problems for 15 years, ever since she picked up something very heavy, at arm's length.

There's no good solution, since she's chosen to be sedentary so her back won't "go out" more often than it does.

She's been taking an anti-inflammatory drug for her back for a very long time.

More background,

After my leg was attacked by a bike frame (don't ask) I took Aleve for the pain and inflammation. I got a rash on my leg, starting at the injury site, starting about a week after the injury.

Dermatologist to Internist to Vascular surgeon, no good explanation for the rash, or the swelling.

Rash kept getting worse, until ..

a nurse told me the rash could be CAUSED BY  the Aleve (or any other NSAID). So I stopped the Aleve, and the rash and swelling resolved.

The current problem:

Spouse's calves have been very swollen for weeks. Recently she developed a rash on her left calf that looks EXACTLY like the rash I had.

I suggested to her that she needs to get off the NSAID (non-steroidal anti inflammatory drug), because it's a likely cause of both her swelling and her rash.

BUT she thinks if she stops it (Mobic) the back pain will become unbearable.

I suggested that she try doing gentle stretching exercises she learned in PT after her back problem developed, for two or 3 minutes, twice or three times a day.

Not that she will listen to me.

Any ideas about how I could convince her that this was her idea in the first place?

Can you find some articles saying long term use of NSAIDS can be bad for one's health? Stretching is always good! Won't she do it?

Honestly Ed, I don't think there is anything you can do. She's not going to listen to you. She's not going to change.

I think you need to find ways that you can bring some happiness into your life that can counter all of this negative.

Have you considered finding a vitamin or something that looks like the ibuprofen and switching them out?

They come in blister packs and get popped out one at a time. cry

And she's already taking 7 different pills three times a day. Calcium, fish oil, Vitamin D, Vitamin something else, more ...
