What would you do with the binoculars??

My husband got a few things from his grammas house  when she passed away.  One of the items is a pair of binoculars.  He just loved using them when he was visiting her.  They would sit in the back yard together and watch birds, they would go to games together and use them from the nose bleed sections, they used them when they went on vacation.

The binoculars are broken.

And now, he told me to just throw them away.  I can't bring myself to do it.  I know logically they aren't usable, but it seems wrong to toss them when they have such sentimental value.  Except I'm co-opting the sentimental value because he's obviously over it.

What would you do?  Toss them?

And....is there anything you have kept even though it's no longer useful simply because of sentiment?  I can honestly say I have nothing else in my house that falls in this category.  I have some sentimental things, but nothing that doesn't work or isn't useful.

I have been reusing the same hand soap bottle for 13 years because it was one of the last things my mom gave me before she passed. I'd keep the binoculars. Maybe you could find a way to restore them? Or maybe have them repurposed into some kind of cool artwork.

I have an ugly purse my mom gave me her last Christmas alive. Never used it.

Good idea.  I wonder what I could do with them.  I would love to do something spectacular and then give them to him as a gift.  He would be touched.

I would keep them. I like the idea of repurposing them into some kind of artwork. That's a neat idea!

I have a victrola and a camera that is from the early 1900s. I have a bookshelf in my foyer that displays the camera, along with our 10 favorite books each and a few bibles and hymnals that are a couple hundred years old. I really like the way it looks...

And I use the victrola just as décor. It matches my colors and we are a pretty musical family...

I would keep them.

I wish we had more stuff from his gramma. But we don't. She used to own 7 bars in Ohio. The woman was a hoot!

I'll ask him mom what she has that would be sentimental. She might have some stuff.

You're describing Spouse. I don't think throwing her away is an option. cry

Definitely keep them. I have a couple of ugly pillows my sister made for me when she was young (no she's not dead), and I swear if my house was burning down I'd grab those damn pillows before anything else. I love those ugly things.
