I'm dreading it right now. We have to figure out what to get our kids. Kids who have way too much.

This is how I feel. Our kids have a lot. More than their share (from a global perspective anyway). I have no idea what to get them.
But, this will be my first holiday season in a long time where I am not on the front lines of retail so I am looking forward to enjoying every second of it.

It's especially hard for SS. He has two sets of STUFF. And doesn't play with what he has most of the time. We hate to buy him boring stuff like books and clothes for Christmas. That's not fun stuff to get. But that's really what he needs.

Anything I get for DD in NYC has to be able to fit in her suitcase for the trip home. She usually packs a carry on, then fills it up and carries it on for the trip back. Although one of her fave presents is a subway pass. Lol.
DD at home - she is a pain. She has everything in the world and is picky as heck.
Maybe this year I will do something really off the wall. Not sure what.

I am enjoying being able to buy gifts for my kids this year. They are not going to get a crap ton of stuff. But I get to get the something.
J is proving to be the hardest one to get for. Usually he knows what he wants and is dropping hints by now. This year he isn't saying anything, even when asked.

I always have a hard time with my nieces. They always end up with books. You can never, ever have too many books.
NJN, how old are your kids? What do they like? I am sure I could think up some great age-appropriate books.

OMG DD is a reading maniac. She has 3 books going right now. Low on FB yard sale sites for your local area. I bought the entire Dork Diaries for $5, it is I think 9 books. Any Harry Potter? So many people bought all the series you can get them all really cheap on these sites.

My kids have all come to us by themselves and asked for money. No gifts at all, just money. That makes me sad. I love having a ton of presents under the tree. But they all NEED money. So that's what they will get...:(

Kids are already on notice that Florida is the gift. However, there will be a few little things too. Cutting back! Oh but not cutting back on SS.
Disney gifts cards would be good - to spend in the park.
Did I tell you that I still think you are crazy for going that week?
Yeah but the offset is I have a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo with a kitchen for the entire week for (drum roll please) $700. this is the first "fly some where" vaca for DD since she has been 3. It's our big one, after this its vaca on the cheap. Checking the box. Plus lots of extended family will be there. Just need to do it.

Yeah a few years ago, we are all just exchanging gift cards with all the nieces and nephews. I put a stop to it. Said no more. And we started doing the Yankee swap, one for those under 14 and everyone else in the adult category. Not doing the money thing.

I don't live by anyone so gift cards do make my life easier. I may do some shopping when I'm in Florida next week and just leave the gifts in my dad's closet at the house.
I know she wont get them all. I'm thinking the basic 5.
The dresses and those movies will it for her.
A is getting an Intuos and pen. It's a drawing tablet for the PC. He is into music and animation. He is really good at both. I also have 3 shirts for him.
J says he wants clothes and a phone. The phone he had hasn't worked right since day one and he didn't really care for a very long time cause he said he didn't see the point in it. He also wants a Nintendo 64. So I am looking for a good used game system.

SS is nine. Turns ten in Jan. He's the worst to shop for.

Would one-on-one time qualify as a wonderful gift to a kid?
No. I do this on a regular basis. I spend a heck of a lot of personal one on one time with my kids. I'm not the typical park them in front of the tv parent.

I'm putting money into my sil's bank acct. For Christmas since they live overseas. My dd is going to shop for my dgd and soon to be dgd for Christmas. I would much rather buy something personaly but to hard and expensive. Son and his wife are purchasing a house so the may get gift cards to lowes and bed, bath and beyond. My dh and my gift is a trip overseas for the birth of our grand daughter.
I'm in the same boat NJN. DD has way too much stuff. I don't know what I can get her that she needs, can use, and will also have fun opening. She is getting an American girl doll, with clothes, and maybe some accessories. My mom might get her one of the historical American girl dolls too.
Baby A will be getting clothes and some baby toys.

He doesn't even appreciate half of what he has.

Our two oldest want money too. But, we have six grand's to buy for, so we will still have a ton of gifts under the tree.
Maybe you can find something extra special for sweetness. She is to the fun age.... she will play with the box.
I do still get a special Christmas ornament yearly. They do appreciate it. DD has decorated her whole tree with gifted ornaments and ones the kids have made.
Start a new tradition if you can. Make this the year you bake Christmas cookies with sweetness. Have lots of sprinkles on hand for fun.
