Does anyone use a sound machine? I to bed earlier than DD and she is not the most quiet person. Some of her noise is just plain inconsideration but in her defense she does have a sensory deficit. She doesn't realize how hard she walks or talks. I have a fan in my bedroom to kind of neutralize her noise but it's getting cooler and the fan irritates me now. I don't want to use my ipod or phone to play any music because the light bothers me. I need darkness.

Maybe drape a black towel over your ipod or phone to block the light.?

If you want one, listen to it for a good 30 minutes before you buy it.
Why? Cause some of the sounds become more annoying than restful. One of the sounds on mine was the ocean. It was nice. Except for the shrieking sea gull every 3 and half minutes.
The river sounds were the most soothing.
You can also get a mini fountain. They do double duty cause they help keep moisture in the air in the winter.
Shop around for what the best one to do what you want it to do.

We have a fish tank. Especially nice in the winter, helps keep the air moist. I just have a couple of goldfish in mine. They are pretty to look at, and block out noise. Especially nice on Saturday night s, because one of my housemates always has loud friends over.
Had one sound machine that when I listened to the "running water" I had to pee constantly.

I used to have a little fountain in my room. May have to get one of those again. I can't stand any light. I have to cover the clock and cable box because even that bothers me.
