“You may shoot me with your words, you may cut me with your eyes, you may kill me with your hatefulness, but still, like air, I'll rise!” ― Maya Angelou
I learned all this when I had the honor of visiting a LDS Temple in Boise, ID a few years ago. Non-members are not permitted into the Temple, but occasionally, usually when renovations have been made, they will open the Temple to the public for a day or so. I just happened to be in Boise attending my uncle's funeral, when the LDS opened the Boise Temple to the public. It was fascinating.
I used to think of the LDS, or "Mormons" as a cult. That is, until I toured Salt Lake City and became educated as to their beliefs. It was also my observation that LDS members all seemed to happy, calm, and possessing inner peace.
I think if I were not Catholic and in search of a religion, I would lean towards joining the LDS.
The LDS members who live behind us are weird. Now I don't mean weird because of their religion. I mean weird as in they do weird things.
And when they first moved in they thought we were devil worshipers.

The people that live behind me are LDS members as well. They have a huge family and are very nice. They have invited us to various events at their church but so far we haven't gone. Not because we don't want to but we are unable due to illness or other plans.
They thought YOU were devil worshipers? What would give them that idea?

Our neighbors are nice but they do strange things. Like I went over to tell them their chickens were in my yard and the dogs would kill them if they got close enough. Their front porch had 3 aquarium tanks, all with dirt and what looked like animal skeletons in them.
And when they moved in they had 3 kids, The oldest was about 17 and the other two were around 6 and 8. Well about 3 months later the oldest left and we haven't seen her since. But they will have 2 or 3 teen pregnant girls that move in at a time and then about a month later they are gone.
They have had two dogs that had to be put down for some reason. And one day, the police showed in their yard and they all surrounded their shed and then somebody shot something that was in the shed. Still don't know what that was all about.
As for the devil worshippers thing.
When they first moved in, my kids and were in the back yard and I invited the two youngest over to play with my kids. Our yards backup into each other so why not.
It was a week from Halloween and my kids were talking about getting pumpkins to carve. I asked if they were going trick or treating and the kids looked at me like I all of a sudden sprouted a second head and said they did celebrate Halloween. They said "every year?" And I said yeah, religiously. Without even thinking about it.
They went home. The mother came and asked me about it. I tried to explain what I meant but she wouldn't have any part of it.
Oh well.

But it has kept me from having to watch her kids or any of that neighborly stuff that seems to happen.

My most recent Ex converted to Mormon in his 20s. They approached him at a time he was seeking something & they filled that gap. He stayed in the church for about 10 years. Then he left due to what he felt was hypocrisy. He had all kinds of bad things to say about them. Mostly it was that the local leadership was believed to rule based on what God told them. Even if they were proven wrong the ruling couldn't be changed because that would prove men made the decision, not God. He spent about 10 years trying to get excommunicated. It was difficult because they won't let you go. They found out he was living with me & called all the time. I'd come home from work & the missionaries would be waiting on the porch. Even after he'd moved out.
I read the Bible passage referenced in the article, which is Numbers 15: 37-41.
The passage is an instruction for people to have tassel's on the corners of their garments (with blue) to remind them to stay focused on God's commands as the tassel's were in motion as they walked.
I don't see how that relates to undergarments.

Faith isn't something that keeps bad things from happening. Faith is what helps us get through bad things when they do happen.

That references the prayer shawls (Jewish) I think they were just making a correlation about sacred symbology in garments.
The undergarments they show are not marked. It is my understanding that the undergarments are marked with symbols of religious importance.
It's my understanding that they are nice because they have to be so they can make it to the highest level in Heaven.
I could be wrong too, but I thought they believed that there are a limited amount of spaces in heaven and the more good you did and the amount of people you brought to the church assured your spot.
I live in in a high Morman area. Every high school has a temple close because the teens go every morning before school to pray and worship. School starts at 7 so I think they go at 5:30. I admire their commitment. I hate getting up that early.

I have a friend who was raised Catholic and is now a JW. She goes to her meetings twice a week and won't let work put her on the bday board, talks about not celebrating this and that. BUT she still buys gifts for Christmas and birthdays for her adult children and grandchildren. Go figure.
