WASHINGTON, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Kaci Hickox, a U.S. nurse who has tested negative for Ebola after returning from West Africa, on Wednesday said she would challenge Maine's restrictions and did not plan to follow guidelines to quarantine herself until Nov. 10.
"If the restrictions placed on me by the state of Maine are not lifted by Thursday morning, I will go to court to fight for my freedom," she said in an interview on NBC's "Today" program.
In several media interviews, Hickox said she was in good health and had not had any symptoms of the virus that signal a period when an infected person would be contagious. Speaking from her home in Fort Kent, Maine, she said she had been monitoring her condition and taking her temperature twice a day.
But she sharply criticized state guidelines that would require her to stay isolated at home for 21 days, saying she was "appalled" at restrictions she deemed unconstitutional and not based on science.
"I don't plan on sticking to the guidelines," she told NBC.
Lawyers for Hickox told ABC and NBC that Maine officials would have to go to court to get an order to enforce a quarantine and that, if the state does, their client would challenge it.
Hickox worked with the medical organization Doctors Without Borders to help treat patients with the virus in Sierra Leone and fought earlier isolation in New Jersey.
"I feel absolutely great," she told ABC's "Good Morning America" program. "I am completely symptom-free."

I highly doubt she is selfish, seeing as she volunteered to go help in West Africa.
Would you?
Yes, actually, I would, if I didn't have a family here to think of. However, NOW she is being selfish and stupid. She is a health care worker and KNOWS the incubation period could be 3 weeks so testing negative now means nothing.
Her stupid comments and threats to sue prove how self-centered and selfish she is. She should be self-quarantining without being required to. She probably volunteered over there so she could brag on her altruism. She's a dumbass.

No, she isn't dumb. She is negative for ebola, is self monitoring, knows the earliest symptoms and has the contacts and incentive to get very early intervention.
Ebola isn't easily transmitted, especially in the earliest stages. Again, case in point that the immediate family of the Dallas patient (Duncan) live in close quarters with him being quite ill for 4-5 days before he was hospitalized, and another 3-4 days in the contaminated apartment. None of them got sick.
I'm sorry, but I think until you are willing to walk a mile in her shoes, calling her names is dumb.

I have to agree with you, JPT. And she IS a nurse.

I suspect that, if people in Maine are like people in the rest of the country, there are people who are so afraid of this spreading that they might take a deer rifle and hunt her down.

Nope. And it's telling that you do...liberals. Just when you thought...oh...nevermind...

she would lose in any court case--she's in violation of the law / various ordinances--her justification ? " it's inconvenient, " " it's unnecessary,"
" i'm not symptomatic "--sorry, you lose-- her being " inconvenienced " doesn't trump the health / well being of millions of other people--she just wants her fifteen minutes--she is self-centered and ethically wrong--she should be incarcerated/quarantined when she gets to maine and is looking like state officials are planning just that--ideally, she should lose her license

I'm not fully sure what point you are trying to make here, other than bringing in random deflection, but I HATE Chris Christie.

I support mandatory quarantines for 21 days prior to leaving west Africa.
I also support quarantine when arriving here.
Ellis Island was used for such.
There is the greater good to think about.
And I don't give a crap about the 4-5 who didn't get it.
I am focused on the thousands who did and died.

I'm not so sure how truthful this article wrote about her. The article states that she is part of a organization that is against mandatory quarantine. I'm going to look it up.
Just you know I don't care who she supported or her political beliefs. I just posted this about because at the bottom it mentions the organization that is against being quarantine after returning from Africa that are infected with disease.

If we are going to quarntine the people coming from West Africa that may or may not have had contact with someone with Ebola, should we not quarntine people we know have had contact with someone with Ebola such as the nurse that went to Cleveland. Ohio is monitoring 100 people that were on her flight, should they be quarntined?
As far as retruning health care workers, we know they have had contact with Ebola patients and because of beinging health care works more likely to catch it. The nurses in Dallas caught it, should we consider quartining health care workers that are treating Ebola patients in the US?
Just my opinion bt I would think the risk factor is:
Returning health care workers treating Ebola, US health care works treating Ebola, people you have had contact with people with Ebola, random West Africans.
And yes, if they happen to come in contact with someone with Ebola, quarantine them too.

And quarantined can be confined to their home. Not allowed to leave their home.
It isn't a new concept. It has been used over and over and over again throughout history.

There is no reason to believe the article is not just made up out of nothing.
Well I heard her this morning talking to a reporter on the morning news program and she said herself that she is going to go about her regular day like she always has. She will take her temp twice a day and if she thinks it is necessary she will seek medical attention.
But she wont be restricted.
I take that to mean a big ole "screw you".

A quick look at the pundit website shows that everything they write is anti-Obama and anti-Democrats.
I didn't read all of the article just the bottom paragraph. I don't care what her political beliefs are I thought if it was true about the cdc it may be why she is causing a stink about this. As I said, I don't know how truthful the information is.
There is no reason to believe the article is not just made up out of nothing.
I does have a slant/bias, but I am not sure it is inaccurate. I also do not see the point. So what if she is a democrat that works for the CDC or with Doctors Without Borders. Both groups are against a mandatory quarantine.
She "volunteered" to go over and help Ebola patients, but the reality she was being paid. And still is. What is my source? i work with a DOT employee who has worked with the CC and hospitals. And that is standard to label them volunteers so the person cannot sue them if something happens. She left her house in the middle of last night and went to her BF's apartment. The Maine Staties were sent to her house this afternoon to keep her there. She is a selfish person, does not care one iota for the American public. She is making threats all over the place, has a lawyer from the ACLU. Until we get a handle on this disease that kills 50%+ of anyone who contracts it, people should be quarantined.

So she may be stuck with her friend for awhile if they quarantein him too. The family of the man who died from ebola were quarantined and didn't put up a fuss like this woman and and to deal with grief too. I wonder if she would have a job when this is over.
