I've been lurking for a bit, and thought I should come out of the shadows and introduce myself. I'm a canadian mom to 2 young kids, and DH and I have been happily married over a decade now. I'm an engineer to bring home the bacon. Fiscally conservative, socially liberal on the canadian spectrum, which likely makes me crazy liberal on an american political spectrum. I really enjoy debate and hearing diverse views.

Hi Elphaba! I am also Canadian, but about 10 hrs west of your avatar. That's too bad :( I've been dying for a geek meet! I also fall not-too-left of you on the political spectrum and hope that Harper gets the boot in our next election.

My daughter is currently obsessed with Wicked and my home is a non-stop musical. :) We saw it recently when it was in town. It was fantastic, and I'm generally not much of a musical fan.

 I haven't been following the Ghomeshi scandal too closely, and I try not to prejudge these things, but it was pretty hard to read his facebook post without getting an 'icky' feeling about him. I'd always enjoyed Q, but wasn't a fan of Ghomeshi in particular.... now that they're up to 9 women speaking out, it's hard to  withhold judgement.

I'm not a Harper fan, but I'm not too fond of any of the alternatives that are out there right now either. I'm one of the target group that the Conservatives were wooing with their tax credit announcements last week. :)

Oh. That clears it up. NOT!! lol The only thing I know about her is John Travolta butchered her name during the awards ceremony. I thought I had heard her name somewhere. It was on the news!

Well yes. those who don't do Broadway or musicals would have no need to know who Idina Menzel is. Makes sense. You're missing out, though!

Of course, some Broadway stars do amazing crossover into mainstream. Callie Torres on Grey's Anatomy is played by Sara Ramirez and is the most famous Broadway star to cross over. She's amazing. I amend my "if I could have any job" post. I would be the equivalent of Sara.

Well, that makes sense, but that doesn't mean you should miss out on amazing vocals.  There is rarely mainstream music (like the stuff on the radio) that involves the talent and skill and amazing-ness of some of the Broadway performers.  Check out at least 1 Idina Menzel video and the Sara Ramirez live video I posted above.  I would rather listen to either of them than most of the crap on the radio.
