I am looking online at kitchen aid mixers. I know a lot of you guys have them so I need input. I see some on QVC. There are 2 I am comparing. One is 325 watt tilt and the other is 575 watt bowl lift. I think the tilt is easier to use but what about the extra power? The prices are similar so either one is a candidate.

Red would be my choice as well. Also, will the accessories be the same if I buy one wattage vs. the other?

What do you cook?  Do you cater regularly?  Would your really NEED the more powerful one?  I have a basic tilt KitchenAid mixer.  It has done anything that I have needed it to do.

Although, I do want an extra bowl.

I haven't ever shopped for one. I got one as a wedding gift, over 33 years ago. And it's still going strong.

Sorry.cry

Red sounds nice, though!smile

My sister gave me one when I bought the condo. I like the lift one.

Mine is a hand me down. I don't even know how old it is, but it still works great. It's not as pretty as the newer ones, but I love it anyway.

I have no idea about any of that.

I just like the shiny red. It's pretty. Like a new sports car.

I don't cater but I would like to get the grinder attachment for making sausage and I would like to make pasta. There is only a $25 difference in the 2 models.

Well, if the price difference is only $25 - get the better one!

I have the tilt one, and shredder/chopper attachment in, I guess you'd call it, nickel pearl or light pewter. It's fine. I use it for baking mostly. I usually just shred by hand or use my food processor if I'm doing a lot. I like the hook for pizza dough.

I have a tilt head, shiny red, Classic model KitchenAid. For the average home cook/baker, it's more than adequate. Considering how small the price difference is, if it were me, I'd go read reviews of both models and get whichever one has the better reviews. If the difference in performance is negligible, I'd get whichever one you like best.

Lily - I got my red on from Target Online. It was a lot cheaper than buying it in the store. I want to say I ended up paying $200 for it. I love it so much! Definitely save a dollar here and there and get yourself one!

Last year Belk had them on Black Friday and I didn't get one. I went back later and they were all gone. They have them again but I don't want to go since they are opening on thanksgiving day. I will keep my eyes out for deals over the next few weeks.

I've never had the need for one I don't think. I have a hand mixer though.

I inherited my MIL's. It's about 10 years old and I love it. Especially for making breads.

Every time one of these threads shows up I feel like I must be missing out on something but then I think seriously what would I do with one.  I rarely use my hand mixer as it is.

I don't have the need for one, but I have been looking to upgrade my hand mixer. The kitchenaid hand mixer has mixed reviews. Does anyone have any experiance with the hand mixer?

I have the smaller one. Not the tilt head. I wanted the tilt head one. I just recently started using mine. I really wish I had gotten the bigger one. I make some recipes that are large. Like dog biscuits and a pumpkin cheesecake at Thanksgiving. I think I'm really going to like mine.

Amazon has a good assortment. The red ones do look good.

My mother had gotten a Sunbeam as a wedding present, with a grinder attachment. She used it without any problems the rest of her life.

Nope. Never gonna have a use for one. Even when I DID cook, I wouldn't have had a use for it.

I have an old hand mixer with a stand. It was my grandmothers and it has a whole three different kinds of blades.

I don't cook much anymore. I wouldn't have a use for a shiny red one.

What I have is enough for what we use it for.

I got one last Christmas. We kept meaning to take it back and get the tilt head. We never did. I just opened and used it the other day to make dog biscuits.

I have a tilt-head KitchenAid and like it. I use it when I have a lot of cooking to do. Otherwise, I use my hand mixer.

I have the basic, tilt head version - 14 years old, and still going strong. I'd LOVE to have the grinder or pasta attachments, but they're not in the budget. The only problem I've ever had was the paddle mixer gets nicks in the enamel coating, and chips here and there. I would also suggest that when you purchase one, spring for an extra bowl, especitally if you do a lot of baking. There are many times when you separate eggs, and after you have incorporated the yolks in the batter, you need to whip the whites. A second bowl would be awesome here.

I love KA products. My main mixer is from 1965 and is still going strong. (there is a picture on the spice thread). I have a back up in the basement that I got at Goodwill for less than $100. The attachments are interchangeable with either style mixer.

I have a KA blender, food processor, roasting pan, large skillet with glass lid, knife set w/butcher block, can opener, the slicing/shredding attachments, the sausage making attachments (never used - Southern Belle, make me an offer), the pureeing attachments (never used). I am sure I missed something.

I want my mom's slicing/shredding attachments. The new ones with the plastic housing are okay except for my housing is cracking. Mom's housing is metal.

ETA I also have the scraper paddle.

Oh, yea, both of mine are tilt heads.  Mom replaced hers (the one I have from 1965) with the lift-bowl model.  She hates it.

I didn't think I needed one until I bought it. I didn't get all the fuss over a mixer. But it's awesome.

Ok so Kitchen Aid is the best. If you are getting best and biggest, make sure you have room for it on your counter. Those suckers are heavy. If you are getting the one that does it all, you will be using it a lot. You don't want to be hauling it out and putting it away all the time.
