Start preparing for #winter and winter travel now. Are you Ready?

This was in my FB feed. Thought it would be a good reminder for all of us.

Anyone have anything to add?

Yes.

If you grew up in Ohio, and know how to drive in snow, and ice.

And, you move to Texas. Where these fools haven't a clue!

Stay home, when it snows. Or during an ice storm.

You'll live longer, that way.

JMHO.

wink

I grew up in Cleveland, where there were six snowstorms of 6" to 24" every winter, and learned to drive in February.

When the roads are very slippery, there's nothing I have to do outside the house that's worth the risk. I stay home.

Other than that, I have jumper cables and blankets and a spare (charged) cell phone in the car. I also have energy drinks (Glucerna) in the car, and something to pee into.

When I'm already out and there's a surprise snow or ice storm, I leave 4 times my usual following distance, and if there's any traction problem,

I don't mind people honking or passing me if I'm driving at 15 mph .... or 10 mph.

I like JPT's addition the best.

Of course there are the sink holes to deal with.

Born and raised in Southern California.  Severe weather here is maybe a the wind knocking over a lawn chair.

I do carry chains in my car just in case, however - because I used to live in the foothills.

I think it is different depending on the region you are in.

Here in North Georgia there is a strict list of events that MUST be followed any time there is any kind of wintry precipitation.

1. You must make sure that you report to your grocery store for the essentials.
This would be
bread
eggs
milk
bologna
soda
chips of some sort
marshmallows
chocolate bars
graham crackers
Alcohol if you drink

You must also make sure you have
duct tape
tarp
wood
matches
paper products
and a trash can lid

2. The kids will be in school so everyone must go get them at the same time. This will cause a back up in the office and on the roads. But it has to be done. There is no way around it.

3. If you can not move your car, you must leave it in the middle of the road. Doesn't matter which road. Just leave it there.

4. Call everyone you know and tie up all the cell phone towers talking about how bad the roads are and how you had to leave your car. This is important.

5. Take a picture of the ruler in the snow showing the whole 1 inch that has completely shut down your town.

Florida: The place where a single 10 foot wave could flood the whole state.

Also: JFK Airport ( New York), elevation 10 feet above Mean High Tide
