I think I have some of those Underwood's Devil ham in the pantry. Love it and the roast beef.

The cranberry sauce is in my pantry.

The Vienna sausages are in there and we have them by their self with crackers and cheese.

I like the old ads.

And the old recipes can be really good.

Except for the jello with veggies. That's just gross.

I like looking at the recipes from way, way back. The ones from the war time are pretty impressive considering what they didn't have and how they made do.

I collect vintage cook books and home economic texts. I had a dinner party once using recipes from the 1950s. It was pretty hysterical and gross.

Some of it can be.

I have an old Better Homes and Garden cook book and a lot of the recipes call for bacon grease. I remember my grandmothers having a can of bacon grease. They kept adding to it and it was used in everything.

Now a days there is no way someone would keep a can of bacon grease for cooking with.

I remember a gallon can of Crisco. Used for deep frying chicken, then filtered through cheese cloth and returned to the can.

Never refrigerated, re-used over and over.

Sometimes I copy then paste into Microsoft Word, then copy that and paste here. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Yep. But did your mom or grandparents ever use lard?

I remember lard. And you did the same thing with it. Just kept using it.

My granmother always made jello with slivered carrots in it. It wasn't too bad. My cousins loved it.

Yes. I will have half of a baked potato as a side dish, about once a week. Baked potatoes are healthy, in moderation.

I stay away from chips, French fries, bread, pasta, rice, and baked goods with flour.

(Except for a rare treat.)smile

I love anything cooked in bacon grease.

But I hate frying bacon.

Wish I could buy it.
