Well, sorry, if I am looking at clothes, I cannot fold them as well as they do when they choose to stack up shirts on top of each other . And, part of that is their JOB you know.

Learn to FOLD!!! Right now...or never go shopping again...LOL
And, seriously, if you are going to go try on clothes ladies, could you at least have the courtesy of washing your twaht before you go shopping so I don't have to step into the changing stall behind you and be nasally assaulted? Just sayin.

I do not miss retail. Oh, the stories. How about the arse who whipped a pair of 501 Levis (Button front) at me and chipped my front tooth. Umm, you can't wear clothes and return it because you want money to go and do whatever!
Um, no. I am there to SHOP and get in and get out. And, if I can buy what I want quickly and efficiently, then the retail workers will have more secure job.
It isn't up to the consumer to figure things out for businesses. Too many places stack the clothes so high and cram a lot of things together so you literally have to root through to find sizes. That isn't the fault of the consumer. There are many ways to make stores efficient to shop in if they choose too.
I think the upside down cereal boxes are funny. It has to be only the ones in front, because turning over only ONE box is fast and turning over everything on the shelves would have taken a long time.
The question then becomes, "why bother fixing it"?
Customers will recognize the cereal they want and take the front box even if it is upside down.

I think the most common offense (back when I worked retail) was coming in 2 minutes before closing & thinking, "Hey, I'm here now! I can TAKE MY TIME and shop."
That biscuit dough doesn't look like a child opened it, it looks like it went bad and the can exploded. But if the retailer wants to blame it on a child, oh well.
I agree with the folding. I try to do it after I'm done looking at something, but really, I don't have one of those board things they use to make it perfect.
I worked in retail and all of these are pretty much your job...lol. If we weren't doing these things (well most of them) we'd be standing around doing nothing. Problems that you have in your stock room can't be blamed on the customers so make sure you're getting angry at your co-workers

Yeah it is your job. I worked it for a while in different places. The cost of the clothes does not make a difference in the level of nastiness.
Worked in one place where someone peed in the dressing room. A nice place. A place you would think people would know better and act better. No. Didn't matter.
A lot of it is just common courtesy.
Make sure your trash actually makes it in the trash.
If you need to bring something back, have the receipt. Not ripped up and don't get in someone's face because they are not doing what you want. Stores have policies for a reason.
If you decide you don't want something, put it back where it goes or bring it to the cashier as you check out.
Going through those stacks of shirts is not hard. They are usually arranged by size and style. Find what you want without throwing them all over the place.
Just because something is someone's job, doesn't mean you have to make it as difficult as possible for them to do it.

Yes, but there are workers who think it is the job of the customer to make THEIR job easier. I hear a lot of bitching by servers, etc. God forbid you want an extra pat of butter and take them away from tweeting on their phones.
I agree LGS. I worked with lots of people who'd get upset because they had to do their job. If it's part of your job description don't be b*tching because the customers aren't doing it for you.

Yes. I can see both sides. Yes, there are truly rude , ignorant and slobby, disgusting people in the public. No question. But, there are also hired workers with attitude as well. I try to be respectful. But, when I get someone with "attitude" who acts like you are bothering them, then no thanks.
It's every single one of the customers who come in with the "it's your job" attitude.
A kid makes a mess in the floor. It's your job.
Some one pukes in the bathroom or smears poop. It's your job.
I need a napkin. I need another round of rolls. I need another round of drinks. I need to go boxes. I need more of this. I need more of that. I need you to do this and I need you to do that. I want, need, have to have any number of things, all in this instance and you better do it with a smile cause it's your job.
A toddler just pulled all the sweaters off the display cart. It's your job.
You just sat your drink cup on the counter and then accidently turned it over. Oh well. It's your job.
The jeans you want in your size are out so there has to be some in the back. Go get me some. What do you mean there are none? It's your job.
My kid is crying. Why are you taking so long? It's your job.
I need to try on every pair of pants but I am going to leave them in the dressing room. It's your job.
And it goes on and on and on.
You may be the only they are dealing with at that moment, but you are only one of hundreds they have dealt with that day.
Yes. It is their job. But the customer has a job too. The job of not making life harder than it has to be.

I did retail for a long time lily and I realize customers can be jerks but I also know sales people who let the jerks determine how they treat everyone. If you can't handle customers than get a job where you don't have to deal with them (general you).

I have worked in the public my whole life. Except for the few times I worked in sample companies.
I spent probably 20 years in public related jobs.
By the time I left I actually hated people. I couldn't stand them. I couldn't look at one with seeing a liar.
Yes there are nice people out there. And when I come across one it was awesome.
But they were few and far between.
I try to go out of my way to be nice to people in retail. I know how aggravating it was and I do everything I can to NOT be THAT customer.

Loved the cereal one. But it was probably a night stocker having a blast. Sorry, I don't see someone else doing that. It's funny though.
The biscuits, like FNW said, look like they went bad. Happens sometimes. They seem to blame everything on the kids but I don't buy that. Sometimes things are stacked poorly and get knocked over by whomever for whatever reason.
I hate seeing people leave trash on shelves and perishable food somewhere where it will go bad. To me that's as bad as stealing.
I always give my clothes I tried on to the lady at the desk for them to put away. I can't fold like they do.
If all it takes to upset you is some misaligned hangers you got problems.

Well, people can suck. However ,there are often nice people to interact with too.
I had great clients. They'd see me out and buy my a drink. Come chat, hang out. Heck, Mitt Romney was a client. Nice guy, nice family. Then when all the Boston political writers would pop in? We'd all just laugh. My store they knew, they could get stuff done and not be hassled.
I still hate when I see a top I like with makeup on it. When I am going shopping I do not wear makeup for the very reason not to stain the clothes. I worked retail as my first real job. People really could suck but it did give me something to do when business was slow.

I started to put on a cute top in a changing room recently and luckily spotted the really heavy white deodorant smears in the armpits before I put it on. Ew.
Working in retain can really make a person hate the public.
That can of biscuits, however, looks like it just exploded because it went bad. I will admit I had to look at it twice though, because at first glance I wasn't sure what it was coming out of the can!

So I'm not the only one that noticed that!

The rude patrons stand out, but, fortunately, they are outnumbered by the polite & respectful ones.
flan
I worked in a restaurant for a few years and I found it is true that the rude patrons are the ones you remember. I believe there are more nice respectful customers then real rude ones. The rude ones just stand out more.
I don't buy into the "it's their job" mentality. It is not their job to clean up after your (general) piggish self after you destroy a display or whatever because you don't know how to act in public. I'm the customer who always returns the cart to the corral, takes extra care to act like a pig, and tries to make the workers' jobs easier. I appreciate those who work in retail and food service. I can't. I do not have the patience to deal with the public.
Unfolding one shirt to see if you like it or if it looks good on you is fine. Unfolding the whole display just to be an ass is not. The design isn't going to change from shirt to shirt, no reason to unfold them all. Generally, shirts are stacked with smaller sizes on top and larger ones on the bottom so it's easy enough to get to the size you need. One thing I don't like is when the stack of shirts is so tall that picking any up is likely to cause the stack to fall.
Dressing rooms - Goodness, I've seen quite a few that bore evidence of a pig having been there. It's really not that hard to at least leave the clothes in a neat pile instead of strewn about the dressing room.
The cereal pic - I don't find it funny. But then, I lack a sense of humor on stuff like that. I don't find purposely making a person's job harder to be funny. I find it spiteful.
Leaving your trash on the shelves - No. Find a trash can.
Items you don't want - Put it back where it goes or give to the cashier or a worker you pass by. Especially perishables.
All I can say is if customers didn't do 70% of these things when I worked retail I would have been out of a job. Yes people can be slobs and rude as hell but that is only a small percentage of the people I encountered working retail. I'm not quite sure where you all are shopping (Walmart...lol) that the jerks outnumber the good customers. I worked for many retailers and I mostly enjoyed DOING my job.

I've almost stopped going to Walmart. The employees just don't care. Obviously the management doesn't either or they would demand the employees to do better.
I've worked in retail before and customers can be awful. I always try to be extra kind to hopefully make up for the meanies.
I don't know. Like I said, I have worked in the terrible Wal-Mart and I have worked in the swanky high priced stores too.
I really think the rude was double in the higher priced swanky stores.
Don't remember a please or a thank you from anyone. It was give me that and get this. The high priced swanky store was where someone peed in the dressing room.
