I have two really amazing small world stories.  The one from today freaks me out a bit.  The friend I had lunch with is a friend I've known for 15 years.  His family kind of adopted me.  So today I was talking about my daughter, who lives in Wisconsin, and he said "oh yeah, I'm friends with her boyfriend on facebook"   Wait.  What?!?!  How did that happen?   "Oh, through another friend, he just asked how I knew you."  Holy cow!  6 degrees of separation indeed.  Btw, I can hardly stand the kid.  We are cordial, but barely.  2500 miles separate us and they're  fb friends.  Weird.

How bout you?  Any small world stories?

One of our surgeons grew up in the same area I did, over 500 miles away from where we live now. Our fathers were coworkers.

I have one from about ten years ago.

Paul was in middle school. I had dropped him off, and a Mom followed me home, and parked at the end of my driveway.

When I got out of my Jeep, she said, "I don't mean to freak you out, but I just have to ask. Who in your family went to Grove City College?" (I had a sticker on my back window, along with one from Y.S.U. and Texas A&M.)

I told her that my husband was the Grover of the family.

She told me that her daughter had just started school there. I think her husbands parents still lived in Mercer, PA. So, the daughter had family near by.

I just found it wild, that another family in North Fort Worth, would even know about Grove City College, let alone send their child to such a small school, so far away.smile

One of the posters from the old MSN DWFM board and I were both in Myrtle Beach the same week and didn't realize it until we were talking about where we had gone and what we done while on vacation the next week on the board.

From what we could deduce, we had been in the same little alligator exhibit at the same time.

A few years ago, G and I were in San Francisco sitting in the lobby of our hotel enjoying the free ****tail hour. Earlier that day, we had gotten a call from G's son's school that he was in trouble for something. He was being expelled and sent to an alternative school.

We were sitting on a couch discussing it. There was a couple on another couch at a 90 degree angle. The guy said, "Hey, not meaning to eavesdrop, but I heard you talking and I'm an adolescent counselor specializing in what your son is going through. I may have some advice. I work in an alternative school."

So we talked to him for a while and then asked where they lived. They live in our town and the school the works at is the school SS was going to. He was going to be SS's counselor. We met each other 2500 miles from home.

I was in Ron Jon's surf shop in Cocoa Beach one day and ran into one of my South Carolina coworkers. We both did the "what are you doing here?" Turns out we were both born in the same place in central Florida. My family moved a long time ago, her's is still there.

One recent, we went on a cruise out of Miami over Thanksgiving. It's pretty common for us to see stuff that was printed in our shop around our small town, but while on the ship in the USVI...we saw someone wearing a shirt we printed.

Second was many years ago. I had jury duty in So. Cal, and back then, you actually showed up and hung out in a jury assembly room for 10 days. On the first day, I was sitting and crocheting, and an older gentleman sitting near struck up a conversation. Over the course of a couple of days, it came to light that he was one of my father's classmates at a Catholic High School in PHILADELPHIA!

I shared the contact info with my dad, and they ended up meeting up a few times over the years before the old gent passed away.

I met a great guy and we were dating for about a month when I introduced him to my sister. Turns out he is her best friends brother. I guess it was meant to be because I married him...lol

If we were to ever meet, I bet you and my DH would have a very spirited debate.

Shortly after we got our puppy Coby, we were vacationing on Cape Cod. We were sitting on the patio of a sandwich shop, and this little 10-year-old girl named Avery from Toronto was absolutely smitten with Coby. She stayed a long time patting and playing with him.

A week later we were about 150 miles away in Kennebunkport, Maine at an ice cream stand with Coby. We heard a voice behind us say "Look Mom, it's Coby from Cape Cod!" Sure enough, it was Avery.

I don't have any thing specific. But each time we have travelled to Europe, we have met someone in a line somewhere from the same state we were from. So in Paris, London, Rome...someone from northeast Ohio in line near us. Very strange.

And in Florida there is always someone from our hometown in a line with us. But that isn't strange, half of Ohio lives in Florida for 6 months.

I have a recent one. The other day I went into the library to walk and was talking to my coworker, and she said "oh, I know what I was going to ask you" and she asked if I knew someone named J.K., and I said yes why? Her 92 year old father in law had gone down to Texas for about a month and was there over Thanksgiving. Turns out that the girlfriend of his son who he was visiting, knew J.K.s step son and girlfriend, and they were there, and J.K and his wife were there as well all at the same Thanksgiving dinner. J.K. lives in South Dakota and I live in Iowa.

I lived in Japan a couple of years and made some friends, but lost touch after leaving Japan. After I came home to Michigan, went to law school and got married, we decided we were moving to Georgia. That week, I got a newsletter in from our church in Japan, and one of my friends had just gotten married and was living in.....the same town we were moving to. She is now godmother to DD10 and one of my closest friends.

I was sitting in the San Fran airport waiting to come home. An attractive man walks up to me and says,'Hey! you hang at X bar in Worcester!' I laughed and said yes. He was from Worcester, too. He switched seats on the flight and we chatted the whole ride home.

My brother was very popular in HS. Everyone knew him. I went away to college at UGA. I was in the bookstore buying books & a girl walks up to me and asks are you Billy's sister? He was still living in VA at the time & had never been to GA.

A friend and I were moving to Colorado back in 1973. We had the car packed to the gills. In the foothills above Denver, we had a flat tire on the car. A cousin I had never met, who lived in Denver, stopped to help me change the tire. Blew our minds when we all figured out the relationships after he asked where I was from in South Dakota. He had stopped because of the South Dakota license plate on my car.
He was my mom's cousin who grew up in South Dakota. He had moved to Denver when I was a very small child. We were both amazed by the coincidence. We spent the afternoon together in Vail and shared a lovely gondola ride up the mountain.
That is the one and only time I have ever met that cousin.

An old coworker and I realized that we went to college together. I asked him who is favorite professor was. He said Prof A. I said oh... that's the one I filed a sexual complaint against.
He burst out "That was you!'

Small freaking world...

Late DH and I were in Honolulu for our daughter's wedding, and we visited the Cultural Center. We're admiring the handiwork of a woman making a huge basket, when this man comes up, moves around us so he can face us, and turns to his wife and says "I TOLD you it was the A's!" - they were square dance friends from New Jersey! About as far away as you can get, and still be in the USA.

After attending the National Square Dance in Houston one year, DH & I, his Mom, & his aunt drove down to Pharr, TX to visit his eldest aunt. Pharr is the tiny town right on the border with Mexico - 200 feet outside of town and you need a passport! We arrived too late in the day to start our visit, so we stayed overnight at the Best Western. In the morning, when we went to have breakfast, we hear "Hey A's!" "A" being a common name, we didn't think anything of it. "Hey AAAAAAAA's!". We look around - and its 4 square dance couples we know from Indiana and Kentucky!
