Or would being there for July 4th really be worth it?
Thinking of going there for vacation this Summer. I know the kids want to do Busch Gardens. And we all want to see all the historic stuff.
But is it hot and humid around those times? What are the crowds like? How hard is it to get around from one tourist trap to another?
Suggestions would be great too.

I'm sure the crowds will be quite large around the 4th. If that's your plan I would make reservations really early. I'm not sure about the temps.
I'm pretty sure they will be large then too.
But I have always wanted to be there for 4th of July at least once.

It was miserably HOT and HUMID when we visited in mid-June a few years ago. We did Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. Both were beautiful, but the heat was a killer.
I stay away during that time. Been there in Christmas which was lovely, July which was horrid, and spring which was pleasant. For the 4th, I would venture some place else, personally. It's my experience that the week following a holiday is much more pleasant, because the crowds have left.
End of May should be delightful. The kids are not out of school yet, so the crowds should be OK.
If you can, try to plan on at least one meal at the King's Arms - I have wonderful memories of that.
The last day of school here is May 22. It will be a half day so if we left when they got out of school, we could stop half way and then be there about lunch the next day. That would be my plan.
I really want to get somewhere with some real seafood too.
I found a house on Chesapeake bay. That's about an hour from Williamsburg right?

It all depends on where the house is located. If the house is by VA Beach, with traffic you are looking closer to two hours. It could take me 20-30 minutes to get to Williamsburg from Hampton.
I would not do the 4th. I would go in May since the kids in VA don't end school until June.

We did Williamsburg the week of July 4th about 18 years ago when DSS was 10. It was great. There were extra shows and displays. We did the Busch Gardens and the big water park too. We were tent camping. Overall, it was a great week.
That said, there is no way I would do it now. Too many people.
