Even though the weather will be warm enough, DH and I can't go down to our fishing camp - ITS BEING OCCUPIED!!!
DH got a call around 8:00 Sunday morning - a friend whose back yard is catty-corner to ours had lightening strike the pole in front of his house during the overnight thunderstorm, and it fried the meter, transformer, and wires on the pole. It was only by God's grace that the strike didn't continue into his house, and start a fire! Of the entire block of homes, ours was the only one that didn't lose power. Guess where everyone congregated! Yep! Not in my wildest immagination did I think that I would be "hosting" a whole block of people (pets included!) when we left. At least our bed was made, and the dishes were in the drain rack! Fortunately, our friend had a key to our home.
The electric company has everyone up and running - EXCEPT our friend! So he and his dog will be living in our home until the electric company can replace the meter & transformer - which they say can take up to a week! I know I've got a full freezer, and lots of shelf-stable refrigerated foods (butter, cheese, condiments, wine, etc.), so a shopping trip will be the first item on our agenda - AFTER I wash the bedding! Our friend has a dog that I KNOW sleeps on our friend's bed - he (the dog!) wears a flea collar, so I hope hope hope its been working! I can deal with clutter and mess, but fleas just ick! me out.
You are a very nice neighbor, but I certainly hope this guy restocks your pantry, cleans the house, and buys you a very nice gift. I mean, if he has homeowner's insurance, they should be paying for him to stay in a hotel. This should not cause work and money loss for YOU.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
Why would it take the power company more than one day to fix this? All these parts are things they have to have available all the time, since things DO happen to transformers.
Years ago a transformer blew up on a pole next to my property. They replaced it in a few hours,
The only times it's taken them more than an hour to restore power were when there were widespread outages from widespread storm damage or flooding.
Their only concern at the time was that the old transformers contain "cooling oil" that contain PCB's .

Down here in south Texas, we're out in the middle of nowhere! 30 miles to Walmart and HEB (large grocery stores), and apparently there were many others, so we're somewhere in the "middle" of the list!
And yes, he SHOULD clean up after himself, but I've seen his house . . . . .

Yeah. I'd do the same for my friends, but I would hope they would appreciate it and do what they can.

Well, I could agree with you--but then we'd both be wrong.
