So the snow forms on top of the lakes then blows inland?

This desert dweller is confused.

No, it's just terrible snow storms that blow inland from the lakes.

Gotcha. It's always confused me why lakes make snow worse. To me, it seems the lake wouldn't have an effect on snow.

I will stick with my desert!

Here's a pretty simple definition.

Lake-effect snow is produced during cooler atmospheric conditions when cold winds move across long expanses of warmer lake water, warming the lower layer of air which picks up water vapor from the lake, rises up through the colder air above, freezes and is deposited on the leeward (downwind) shores.

I will be honest, I didn't get most of them.

But a few I did and they are funny.
