DH did so well with SS today. I'm really proud of him. I did help some. I was already doing laundry so I told DH to bring me his clothes so I could wash them. But I made DH go through his back pack with SS. He did. He also told him we wouldn't buy him a book from the Scholastic book club because he didn't deserve it and hadn't earned it. SS asked right away why I hadn't gone with to pick him up from school. DH told him that I didn't go so that he could address the problems with SS alone. He said SS was pretty shocked about that because usually I am the one taking the lead. SS asked if I was mad and DH told him not mad just highly disappointed. His mom has finally figured he's been lying, only took 18 months, and has decided to actually ground him. They sat and did homework together for a long time. We put him to bed early. Tomorrow he gets to start fresh. I was really proud of DH when he told SS he has different standards for the kids and that's going to stop. I hope things change.
I have the cooking urge. Really want to cook. We still have leftovers though so I am recycling our beans into bean soup, mashed potatoes into potato dumplings, and we will finish up the broccoli and cheese. I'm making a fresh loaf of bread. I am getting creative since we are on a budget!
DH might be going overseas. Kind of sucks but it what it is.
And that is my news report for Saturday folks.

Work today...then DATE NIGHT. DH and I are going to the Symphony (we got tickets from a friend who couldn't use them). So, we'll meet at home, then dinner downtown.
Oooh la la!
They are doing a tribute to Simon & Garfunkel, which is good because I am woefully ignorant about classical music.
I have my usual Saturday errands to do. It's frigid out so I plan on being house bound this afternoon, I'm hoping to re org my xmas decor in storage. Had to pull the bins out yesterday because they were blocking the water meter that was being replaced. figured it's a good time to re org.

Both my kids are up early. I'm already planning a nap.
The only other times we've gone have been to hear a county orchestra play. Unfortunately, they use the auditorium of a middle school and the seats kill my back. I'm usually okay for an hour, then I get bored. Tonight should be different!!
So, I'm in the south now, and they really think it's bad luck to have your tree up after New Year's. I'm like, wow! Really? You haven't even gotten through the twelve days of Christmas, yet!
But I think that generally, northerners keep theirs up longer to combat the dreariness of the weather.

I think northeners keep their tree up longer because we don't want to try to bring up the storage boxes in the ice and 4" of snow. At least, that's our excuse, um, reason

There is that, too! LOL!

NJN, that is absolutely AWESOME!!! Overseas is hard BUT overseas pay is good, right? I hope 'overseas' means a safe place and not the middle East...
Flan, I would love to go to the Symphony - our city actually has a rather well-known one (on a smaller-city scale). There is a man at my church who works for the Philharmonic who keeps offering me free tickets. Unfortunately, I'm not there yet (if you get my drift) and might not ever be - who knows?
LOL, LL and IKWTDS - you made me laugh this morning. Thank you!
I hope all Geeks have a most excellent day. The following is going quite well with my dark-roasted coffee that I brewed with my Keurig this morning... help yourselves!
Went to bed last night and slept until 5 or so. The dog was barking so I finally got up and she was thirsty. Want back to bed and just woke up a little while ago. Hopefully I'm able too sleep like that tonight. Tonight I'm going to go out to eat. It is the city workers Christmas party. We usually just do a potluck. So this will be nice. Haven't been out to eat since before I got sick. We're going to a steakhouse. Should be good.
Flan, I love the symphony. Havent been but a few times and it wasn't a grand symphony but I enjoyed it.
And classical isn't hard to enjoy. I don't know a ton about it but I love listening to it. Chamber is probably my favorite. If you have a classical music station tune in now and then.
We have out Christmas stuff down and boxed up. But it is still in the living room. Why? Because we procrastinate. But it is getting on my nerves so it will be put up sometime before the kids go back to school Tuesday.
It's a beautifully sunny day. It's only 40 but the sun is glorious.
Some how we have ended up with 54 eggs. Seems my mom and dad bought some without talking to me or each other. Quiche anyone? LOL....
Hope everyone has a great day.

Me too. I always end up with like 5 pairs of shoes for a weekend trip
Me too!!! I take the big suitcase for a 3hour tour like MaryAnne and Ginger taught me!
Ya'll sound like my C. I can pack for a week in one back pack.
I have the one outfit I wear and pack 3. One extra pair of underwear just in case and two bathing suits and two gowns. I take one extra pair of shoes and that is it.
Most places we go have a washer/dryer in the room. We usually wash a load about day 3 and most of the time the day before we leave. We have gotten to the point of coming home with only the clothes we have on needing washed.

Good job, NJN! Wow, overseas. Hope it's a job he really wants. Flan, enjoy the symphony! Sounds wonderful! LL, normally that's me. LOL HM, love the coffee cakes! IKWTDS, SB, DB and MM you all make me laugh too! Good morning Lily and tlc. Lindley, sounds like you are enjoying those grands!!! I gave in and went to the doctor this morning with my thumb. My hand was so swollen last night that DH couldn't feel the bones. Doc gave me an anti-inflamitory and a tordol in the butt. And a wrist/hand immobilizer that I have to wear for 4 weeks. If my wrist/thumb does not heal, the bone specialist is next.
It has taken me ten minutes to type this...
I am enjoying baby though. Now I can lift him with the brace on my arm. I rocked him to sleep about a half hour ago. Loved every minute of holding him.
Everything for the baptism is set up. Friends have volunteered to do everything since I no long can do anything. Gosh, I love these people!
Hope you all have a great day!

I am glad you went to the doc and got that took care of. I love Tordol. I would use it every day if they would let me give myself shots of it.
The pills hurt my stomach but the shots work miracles for me.
It's always nice when friends step up like that. Makes you remember why they are your friends in the first place.
Hope you heal quickly.

Overseas jobs pay really well. All the jobs are drying up over here right now due to government regulation. It's not what we want but there are openings in Kuwait and Afghanistan right now.
Flan, the symphony is wonderful. Have fun and enjoy it.
I want cake. Yum.
Lindley, I am so jealous of you and your grandbabies. I want one!
Czech, get better soon!
LL and DG you're slackers. Get those trees down NOW!
SB, have fun and realize the less you pack means the more you can bring back!
NAOW take a nap!
So, the dog continues to break out worse. We have an idea today. She sleeps in our bed and we put a flannel sheet down at night to protect the comforter from hair and keep it from smelling. I toss it in the wash daily. We recently switched laundry detergent and she is breaking out worse. We're going to go to the store and get some Dreft and try washing it with that and see if maybe she is allergic to the perfumes or dyes. Wish us luck.

Okay - so I had to get a roast chicken today, so I will use that to make more stock so that I can make soup tomorrow. I got bacon and vegetables and white beans and found an easy-looking recipe for white bean soup. Wish me luck everyone!!

Throw out the white beans, and your soup will be great! (Okay, JMHO)
Gak! Any bean, other than a green bean, tastes like dirt, to me.
