Spouse needs to wear compression stockings. We have 3 pairs, all different.

One was highly recommended by a nurse, partly because it's easy to put on.

Spouse won't even LOOK at it yet, because she insists that she has to wear the ones with lower compression for a day first.

We just spent 20 minutes getting that pair onto her legs.

She has a device that's supposed to help people put on socks, when they can't easily reach their feet.

It didn't help.

It also didn't help that she's been NEEDING to put them on for about a month, but always had excuses.

I can't give her advice or suggestions because I'm clearly an idiot and nothing I suggest will ever work.

AND she was yelling at me the whole time I was helping her get them on.

Afterward, she told me she was yelling because she was/is frustrated.

Now she wants me to find a gadget to help her get the compression stockings on.

We've looked before and found nothing.

The surgical supply store that has lots of compression stockings, and the lady there who seems to know what she's doing,

had no suggestions for any kind of aid to help get the stockings on.

I'm so sorry to hear that, ed.

I know, you do the best you can, helping your wife.

Good thoughts coming your way.

You have the patients of a saint.

Those things ARE difficult to get on, Ed.  Dad needs them and the times I've tried to help have worn me out.  I bought him a pair with zippers and that has helped ease of use.

I had to use them for a while.

If you put them on before you get out of bed in the morning it is easier.

Also, if she will lay on her back, put her leg in the air and you pull the stocking down it is easier.

I cant get to my feet either and in her defense, it is both embarrassing and humiliating.

Doesn't give anyone the right to be mean and ugly. But I understand the frustration.

Try rolling the stocking all the way down to the foot part. Put the foot part on then unroll the stocking as you go up the leg.

Is it knee high? or the thigh high?

When I had to use them after knee replacement surgery, I found this to be helpful.

Get the largest glass you have, and put the foot of the stocking in the glass. Then, spread the upper part of the stocking over the rim of the glass. You've ALMOST inverted the stocking, but not quite. Fit the foot of the stocking over spouse's foot, up to the ankle.

Now here's the odd part. Put 2 narrow strips of wax paper on either side of the leg, from ankle to knee. Yes, wax paper, from the kitchen! (Spouse can help here, by holding the strips in place.)

Now, holding both hands tightly above the ankle, and underneath the stocking, move both hands up the leg, as if you were trying to squeeze the blood up from the ankle to the knee. The wax paper makes for a smoother surface for the stocking to glide over. And if you leave it on for 12 hours or so, it will help moisturize the skin (bonus!)

Good luck!

I recently started wearing them. I found them soothing and comfortable, after I get them on.
Left leg no problem.
Right leg very difficult, I just can't move my foot to the opposite thigh for positioning. I do not have a helper, so I swear at myself, a lot.
It would not occur to me to swear at a helper......

ed didnt you get hearing aides recently, remove them......
