Cake Filling

For Baby Boy's 1st birthday I am going to make a vanilla cake and want to put a filling in the middle.  Someone suggested just doing vanilla pudding and whipped cream mixed together.  Has anyone tried that?  How did it turn out?  Any other suggestions?

I'm going to do a simple butter cream frosting on top.

What ever you do or what ever you use, make sure to protect all your surfaces before letting him dig in to it.

The high chair had a permanent red icing stain.

Mine did not turn out, but I whipped it too long.  I should have stopped much sooner.

I have mixed the two. If you take the time to fold it together, it becomes an amazing cloud or yumminess.

I like softened cream cheese whipped and mixed with a hint of vanilla and orange. Delightful!
I hate the taste of pudding. Cream cheese is my favorite.

That sounds good if you add strawberries.

I can't believe he's almost 1 already! He's quite a handsome fellow :)

The idea you have for his cake sounds yummy.

Cream cheese or marscapone, softened, and whipped with whipping cream. Lighter than the cheese alone, and the cheese helps stabilize the whipped cream. Flavor with sugar, flavoring extracts, etc. I use this with limoncello and put it over fresh berries, but you can use lemon extract and fold in strawberries (cut up)

I wonder if I could do it with greek yogurt. That kid will eat yogurt until he makes himself sick.

Gack! I hate ice cream!

Truth be told, I don't like cake, either.no

If I'm going to kill myself with carbs, I'd rather have pie.wink

Well it is a birthday cake for a 1 yr old. He don't care about fancy fillings and carbs.

Birthday cake and ice cream is classic for a reason.

This has given me an idea for Valentines cupcakes.  I looked up a recipe and found one.  I think I could use peppermint extract and red food coloring to make a pretty pink and yummy frosting.

I got all the stuff to make this icing. I'm going to use red food coloring to turn it pink. I can't decide whether to put peppermint extract in or not. The cupcakes are going to be chocolate.

I wouldn't. I had a lot of peppermint at Christmas, so I'm kind of over it at the moment.

I'm going to mix cream cheese, whipping cream, sugar, and vanilla extract. I will make half white and half pink. I just remembered that SS is allergic to red dye. I have some heart shaped marshmellows and some sweettart hearts with the words on them to put on top. I think they'll be cute.
