My sister broke her ankle Friday. I want to send her a little care package. I can't shop until tomorrow so I figured I'd have time to think of things but I'm stumped.

Oh ouch!
Some magazines or books.
Some movies to watch.
She won't be getting around very well, for a while. Poor thing.
Nice non skid slippers, a breakfast type tray for eating in bed, I liked being given movies. Any kind of snack she likes.

What about some pre made meals? You can order them online.
How long will she be needing help?
Maybe pay for someone to come in and clean for her one day.
Send her some fun things.
Play doh
Bubbles
Coloring book and pencils.
Is there something that your mom would do for you guys when you were growing up and sick or hurt? You could try to do something like that.
I know when my foot was in a brace my toes stayed cold. And none of the socks I had would fit.
And it got itchy.
So take a tube sock, cut the toe off so that it can be put over the toes and pushed inside the cast.
You can also sprinkle some powders like gold bond in the top. It helps keep it from itching and smelling.
Maybe those are some ideas you can work with.

Good ideas all. My niece is helping her with house work and her husband is pretty good too (he's also a chef) so she doesn't need cooking or cleaning. She went to Urgent care instead of the ER so she was referred to her ortho doc who she goes to see tomorrow. I think she will be able to get away with a hard cast. She got crutches, a walker and a wheelchair so she's set in that department. She likes pretty things and pretty smelling things so maybe a nice bath set, lotions and other stuff.
Cant really use bath stuff with a cast. Unless they have changed.
An Edible Arrangement is both pretty and delicious.
Maybe some pretty and easy on pajamas. Bath and Body Works has lots of things.
A really soft throw blanket.
Some magazines, maybe some snacks.

A few years ago we were at the beach and this woman had her granddaughter with her and the little girl had a cast on. She was swimming in the pool and at the beach in the water and playing like it didn't matter. After seeing them a few times mom asked her about the cast. Grandmothers talk to each other. The woman told her it was a new kind of cast and could get wet and it didn't matter.
All I could think was how uncomfortable it had to be with all that wet sand and salt and yuck you get on you at the beach.

Casts are changing but it's still the same padding underneath. That's the part that can't get wet. Unless you are lucky enough to get one of these.....
It's a 3d printed cast, they are so freaking cool!
Poor kid. I bet her skin was a mess when that cast came off.
I have had a couple casts inn my life. That would have been so much better.

I saw something interesting yesterday. We did an ankle. Then the doc put a cast about calf high, then he took the cast saw and cut from the calf to the ankle and spread it a bit. The he wrapped it in an ace bandage. I'm guessing to allow some air in and some room to move.
When I had my two knee surgeries the things that I wanted most were easy snacks. You can't always get around and carry stuff and you don't always want someone to wait on you hand and foot. Also mints/hard candy. My mouth was so dry for a long time after surgery.

After being in the hospital so long, the thing I appreciated were the snacks. I never did use the puzzle books or anything. But I would have to be REALLY bored to do puzzle books. Or you could get her something useful, like a bag she can carry stuff in with the walker/crutches. Hoodies are also good for carrying several things. I will put a can of pop, silverware or whatever will fit to carry to the table or wherever I'm sitting.
I saw a guy in the store wearing one of those just the other day FWM.
tlc, that's really helpful. When I was on crutches I couldn't carry anything. That would have been immensely helpful.

About 10 years ago DD broke her arm and was able to swim in her cast. The padding inside was not regular padding, it looked most like bubble wrap but flatter. She swam all summer in it with no problems.

I would say a small back pack or a big fanny pack would be more helpful though if she is going to be on crutches. When you are on crutches and have a bag it swings against the crutches. PIA DH carried my purse when I broke my leg.

I carry a purse and it's not that bad. And she probably won't be carrying things very far. Getting back pack on and off while on crutches is kind of awkward if you aren't used to it.
A "grabber" thingy! You know, you use it to get a box off the top shelf in the kitchen, or pick up a book that has fallen to the floor.
I STILL need one of those.

Find an old picture of the two of you and get a cute frame for it.
Bubble gum.
Is there an event coming up she would tickets for?
Rubber duckie slippers.
