Yes. I have a version of one. I love it. I have a LifeTrack. I absolutely adore the sleep function. It helps immensely when I go for a check up with the doctor. I can download the sleep patterns and actually SHOW my doctors how badly I sleep. I also like the pedometer. I like to see how many steps I take in a day.

And yet, again. Every time I get on this board I realize that I am living on another planet and have absolutely no idea of what you guys are talking about - well at least some of the time. LOL

Karl, a fitbit is a watch type apparatus that you wear on your wrist. It works like a pedometer. The fitbits have other functions too. Here is a link.

This is what it looks like.  There are several styles and varieties.   I have a LifeTrak.  Same thing, different company.

I bought the wrist band one at Christmas, it can synch with my smart phone. Cost $100. It's still in the box.

I have one. I bought the flex. It was $100. It basically counts your steps from your arm movement. The sleep monitor part just detects movement, so if you toss and turn it counts it as not sleeping. You can get the same info with a $20 pedometer and a good calorie counting app.

Thanks for the info.

I am thinking about getting it for J. He is on a great path right now with his health and I want to support that as much as possible.

And his birthday is next month.

I was looking at the Charge HR. It's $149 online. I would have to get it online because he would need an XL.

My boy is getting all buff and I want him to keep thinking healthy and going forward.

If my other two show an interest, it could be a Christmas present this year.

The silent wake thing, does it really wake you up? How hard do you sleep?

NJN, does your son have trouble waking in the morning, and would this wake him? Cause that would be an added bonus for my J.

I have the Fit bit One. It's tiny, and slides onto your clothing. I've had it since March 2013, and really like it.

I hope you find one you think he will like, Lily.smile

They just all broke down.  Wouldn't upload.  There was no way the information was right.

One thing is most of them upload to a PHONE.  Not the computer.  You have to a COMPATIBLE smart phone to upload most of the data.  I bought the LifeTrak and then returned it because it didn't sync with my phone.  Then I got another one only to find out NOTHING would sync with my phone.  It, apparently, wasn't smart enough.  At Christmas DH got me a new phone so I bought the LifeTrak again.  I've had success with it.  Never had an issue.

My LifeTrak measures things pretty accurately.  It takes a few minutes to "update".  So when you wake up you have to give it a few minutes to calculate your sleep.  When you work out it takes a minute to calculate your workout.  But it's not long.  The only time it misread my sleep was when I was in a really dark movie sitting completely still.  Then it added "sleep time" to my total.  It's not an alarm and won't wake you up.  But it tells you miles you walked, steps you walked, hours of sleep, calories burned, and it takes your heart rate.  I know it has the ability to do other things.  You can program in your weight and go on your phone and program in your diet and it will calculate it.  It has a stop watch and some other features I haven't used.  And I got mine at Wal-Greens for $98.  More than I wanted to spend but well worth it in the end.

Also, when I upload it to my phone it gives an exact breakdown.  Like if I slept straight through or took a nap.  It tells you the exact times of day.  And it will tell you when you walked.  The exact time.  It will tell you when you worked out.  I don't upload it every day but I do find it informative.

There was just a study done on these and they basically concluded the same thing. Pedometers are more accurate at tracking your steps than the fitbits (and the others of the same type).  They suggested buying a pedometer instead and using a calorie counting app. I am on the road, when I get home I will try and find the article - it's on my other device.

I just started using a pedometer, and I've already figured out how to cheat.

I'm sure it's not 100% accurate. I don't try to cheat it. Although I probably don't get all the walking counted I do because I don't shower with it on and I walk around a bit before and after the shower. Actually sometimes I forget to put it on right away when I get out of the shower. So I probably get cheated out of steps.

I really don't care if it's a scientific measure or not. A general idea is all I want or need.

I'm wearing mine because I get points for having 10000 steps a day. I work a desk job. I attach it to my shoe and swing my leg all day.

I'm sure it's not 100% either, NJN.

My Fitbit One is very good at counting steps and miles.

It doesn't work with the elliptical very well. I can run 3 miles, and it only gives me credit for about 1.4. But, that's okay. It will give me credit for the very active minutes, when I log my activity.

It also doesn't always count the stairs very well. If I walk up a steep hill, it will give me credit for an extra flight of stairs. (But, in a way, that makes sense, to me.)wink

I still think it's a good tool. And it motivates  me to try to do better. I really like mine.smile

Exactly.  I can look at it and see if I've done a lot less or a lot more.  I know it's not 100% accurate but it gives me a general idea of if I'm on the right track for the day.  And the sleep part probably isn't perfect either but it is surprising to me.  Sometimes I wake up and can't go back to sleep and I check it and I'm surprised how long I was actually awake.  If you want a scientific measure it's probably not for you.  But  if you're just looking to increase your activity level or sleep I think it's a great tool.

The silent wake thing worked well for me. I am used to getting up at a certain and I wake easily so I felt the buzz/vibrate. My fitbit stopped charging.
