I liked The Grand Budapest Hotel and Wild.

Sounds like Bradley Cooper might take actor for American Sniper. Did anybody see it? Does he deserve it?

I did see the Grand Budapest Hotel, on HBO. It was kind of cute.smile

I haven't seen a movie at the theatre, since Gravity.

I hate, going to the movies.cry

Lady Gaga just did a fabulous musical medley tribute to Julie Andrews from the Sound of Music.

I've never heard her amazing voice because of all her distracting gimmicks and showmanship.

This was just pure, simple, beautiful voice. I wish she would do that more.

It was amazing!  Who knew she could do Broadway style!?   Such a talent, wasted under a meat dress.

I think some of these awards shows have turned people off. They drag on. And, then you get the ones who have to turn it into a political platform. That's annoying.

I like Neil Patrick Harris. I'll probably watch parts of it tonight.

I hear there were a lot of "activist" type speeches? No thanks. I don't take my politics from entertainers and celebs.

I may be in the minority, but I understand feeling passionate about a cause & using your fame to promote it.

Better, imo, than a K-K-Kardashian bimbo...

Actors place too much importance on themselves, IMO. I can't stand the long political diatribes. I saw a few taped ones on the morning shows and quickly turned the channel.

There is a reason why the public does not watch the Oscars. I hate the activists speeches.
The news blurbs are enough for me. I never heard of the Birdman movie...

It's AMAZING.  I'm so glad it won.  Whiplash was my favorite this year, but I knew it wasn't going to win best picture. I'm just glad J.K. Simmons won supporting actor.  He definitely deserved it and it was a pleasant surprise...

I didn't think that the speeches were all that 'activist'. There were some good points. There are injustices in the world - why not use your time in front of the microphone for good use?

Because I don't CARE what they think about starving children in Uganda.  The reason they have a platform is because they act like they are having an orgasm on screen.  So, yeah.  The political stuff, LAME.

If a person was truly "self absorbed," why would they bother being concerned about any cause?

I'd rather have Patricia Arquette speak about equality than watch John Travolta do whatever it was he was doing to Idina Menzel.

I didn't watch any of it but I did get to see LGS in a snippet of her Julie Andrews thing. It was beautiful and she was beautiful.

I get tired of stars making political speeches too. Who cares. They have a big name so they get up and speak. Go do the hard work. Donate time.

I didn't see a whole lot of political speeches that were not derived from the piece they were nominated for. I didn't watch all of the show, just the acceptance speeches. But Julianne Moore references Alzheimer's because she was nominated for playing a woman with the disease, Eddie Redmayne mentioned ALS because he was nominated for playing someone with it, Particia Arquette mentioned equal pay for women and her character was a hard working mom who was struggling...they all were referential to their roles IMHO which I dont mind. Now, if you win for playing a homeless person in NYC and you want to talk about the Ukraine, that's another story.

Eh, I don't see how actresses can stand up and whine about equal rights. They said she was complaining because in her last role she got a lot less than her male counterparts but then others countered with the fact that she didn't have as big of a role as they did. It's just hard for me to take stars seriously on much.

I don't have a problem with her talking about equal pay...its a big issue in Hollywood and on "Main Street". So many women get paid less than men for doing the same work.  At least it's an issue that effects her directly and not some esoteric "save the spotted sea urchin" plea.

There are a lot of things to consider when you consider equal pay. I was watching a show and there was a female teacher complaining she had her Masters and didn't make what some CEO's make. They asked her what her expectations of a salary were when she went into teaching. She honestly expected to make a killing. That's on HER. But yes, I can't get into the save the spotted sea urchin causes. Or the non American actors and actresses telling us about how to run our country.
