I need help. Every night this week, my dog has poo'd in the house while we are all sleeping. He hasn't done this since he was a puppy. I know its cold out so he doesn't like going out but he does poo outside. I just don't get it. He isn't sick, his diet hasn't changed. How do I get him to stop? I would hate to have to start using his crate again but I may have to. Any ideas? suggestions?

I think he crate is the answer if you aren't catching him do it. But you probably won't have to use it for long, just long enough to remind him what the rules are.

Sigh, yeah I think the crate is the only answer.

Doggy diaper? I got nothing, sorry, other than making him a heated doghouse outside.
My faithful friend was allowed to jump from the garage door into a basket in the house which was next to the fireplace. She would remain there, enjoying the warmth, until she had to "go", and she would stand up. We knew instantly and would open the door for her to leave and do her duty somewhere in the backyard. We never knew where, as she would bury it in the flowerbeds, like a cat. Anyway, when she became old, she had "accidents". These accidents occurred for a few months before her demise.
Not trying to scare you, but perhaps your pooch is reaching "that" age?

He is only 3 1/2. I think he is being defiant because of the cold. I take him out right before I go to bed. He has plenty of opportunity to poo outside. Today is sunny and in the high 20's well it will be this afternoon. I am going to take him for a long walk. Crate tonight, I feel sorry for him yet I could kill him.

I wouldn't feel guilty putting the dog in a crate for the night. That is one thing that I've always done with my dog and she doesn't mind at all. Then I don't have to worry about her going on the floor during the night or getting into something she shouldn't.
