Let's just find out if any geeks are allergic to soy, eggs, milk or anything else that might accidentally show up in a product.

LL, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone with an apple allergy. Apples are one of the few fruits I like.

I know.  It's rare.  But I did meet another lady with an apple allergy a couple of weeks ago.  She caters home-cooked dinners out of her home, and I had to inform her of any allergies.  When I said apples, she couldn't believe it.  Neither of us had met anyone else with an apple allergy.

I don't have any food allergies but between SIL and BIL2 have some that make family dinners interesting.

BIL2 is allergic to anything with corn in it. Do you know how much stuff has corn syrup in it?

SIL is gluten, dairy, poultry, soy and nuts (most all nuts). Her son is allergic to peanuts and seafood.

Oh, and DH and BIL1 have sensitivity to garlic. BIL1 to tomatoes as well.

And this is an Italian family that loves to cook big dinners when they all get together.

I'm allergic to wheat, tree nuts, and tested positive for allergies to fish, chicken, soy but only the wheat and tree make me really sick.

I worked with a woman who was allergic to tomatoes and oranges. Touching them made her hands breakout, but eating them was worse.

No one in my fam has any food allergies. My grandmother has diverticulitis and can't eat corn or nuts. Dad has it and can't eat raspberries.

So an apple a day would not keep the doctor away?

I joke that I just throw a bag of salad on the table and let everyone have at it.  But MIL can't eat greens due to the medication she is on.

When I cook, I just try to have at least one dish that each person can eat.  No one is allergic to rice so I have been making a risotto with homemade vegetable stock, subbing olive oil for butter and leaving out the cheese.

No.  And that's pretty much how I discovered the apple allergy - I got really, really sick because I developed a love for apple juice and I was drinking it every day.  And I didn't know that is what was making me sick - who thinks of an apple allergy? I had stomach cramping and diarrhea for WEEKS, and the doctors didn't know why, but told me to drink a lot of liquids to keep hydrated.  Uh huh.  Guess what I would drink?  I just kept getting worse. Finally, there was an ah-hah moment.

I had never really liked apples as a kid.  Apparently - that's the first clue of an apple allergy b/c kids like apples.  If they don't, it may be b/c of subconscious negative conditioning - eat an apple, your mouth itches, or your stomach hurts, etc.

I'm allergic to 70+ different including grasses, trees, bees, shell fish, peanuts, and etc. The one that bothers me the most is tomatoes! I love tomatoes. If I eat anything with tomatoes in it, my nose runs like a sugar tree. The dr said it's because tomatoes are in the same species as of one of the trees I'm allergic. Since a runny nose won't kill me, I eat them anyway.

I have a weird allergy. I'm allergic to uncooked milk fat. My throat closes up if I have it. If I have a bowl of cereal, I must have fat free milk. Ditto for a glass of milk, if I make that Jello boxed pudding, etc. If the milk is cooked - pancakes, etc. - I can have any type of milk. Something about the cooking process denatures the milk fat protein so I can eat it.

This allergy is only a pain in the rear if I'm traveling, want a bowl of cereal, and there's no store nearby so I can buy some fat free milk.

DH absolutely loves that DS is weaned onto whole milk so he doesn't have to deal with my milk-flavored water as he calls it.

We all have a dust allergy.

A is worse than any of us. He is also very allergic to cats.

J is allergic to glycerin. You know how we found that out? When they do allergy testing, they do a test run with glycerin and an antihistamine before they do anything else.

That put that glycerin under his skin and it immediately welted up. They put a very minuscule amount but he had a place the size of a half dollar come up.

And EVERYTHING in the tests are in a glycerin base. So he would have registered everything.

Do you know how many things have glycerin? Just about everything.

They good news is, he only reacts when injected with it. He can use any product he wants.

I am allergic to latex. It makes me itch. Band aides give me a rash. If I use them, the area around whatever develops a sore after a couple days.

The last few times I ate pistachios, my mouth started tingling and itching. That had never happened before. So I don't know if that was a fluke thing or something I need to be careful of. I have just been avoiding them. Other nuts don't really bother me.

Oh yeah.

J had a milk sensitivity when he was younger. He wasn't allergic but if he drank too much over a period of time he would develop nausea. The milk a day at school was a problem. He had to have a mote from the doctor to get water instead.

Which I think is stupid. I think water should be an option.

Anyway, he out grew it. By middle school he was past it.

I'm also allergic to a lot of weeds and trees, and especially dust mites. I had a huge reaction to the dust mite skin test. The nurse said it was the biggest welt she had ever seen. It sucks because no matter where I go, my nose is always running and I'm always coughing stuff up.

I am so happy that Flonase is now sold OTC. I have seasonal allergies to most every thing that buds, starting with the oak in March. Grass is about the only thing that doesn't bother me.

Non-food allergies ...

Pollen, dust, grass, smoke, and some trees. I have horrible seasonal and year-round allergies. I also have asthma that gets aggravated by my allergies.

I'm also allergic to a long list of meds. It's far easier for the doctor to just name the med he wants to give me and I will say if I can have it or not.

DH recently found out he was allergic to sulfa-drug. It was harder than it should've been to get him to leave work and come home immediately because he needs medical treatment. I warned him he will get a couple shots in the bum but man did he squeal when he got the shots.

Seasonal allergies are common around here.

The medications I react to seems to be growing. Not sure all of them are allergies.

Fire ant bites and penicillin will send me into anaphylactic shock, requiring immediate use of my epi-pen, and then a screaming race to the ER to get my heart slowed down (but not TOO much!) and the quivering stopped.

I am allergic to deer meat. At least that is all I can think to call it.

I love it but within minutes of eating even the smallest amounts I start throwing up. Always have.

I get a terrible stomach ache from milk. I don't know if I'm exactly allergic more like intolerant I think. Cut grass makes my nose & eyes itch. Again I think this is very mild compared to what some people suffer as allergic reactions.

Baby A got hives the other night eating spinach. I thought that was a weird one.

I have a friend who is deathly allergic to sunflower oil. She can't even go out to eat anywhere because sunflower oil is in a lot of things, especially since it's a 'healthier' option, a lot of places are starting to use it more. She had to make her own baby formula because all of the store bought ones have sunflower in them. She can't have it touch her without having a severe reaction.
