If my son were in that class, I would be demanding a thorough explanation from the teacher on why he felt it appropriate to the curriculum. Then, I would explain that that poem is not suitable for minors.
I took two college courses on human sexuality as part of my Anthropology major. One class covered the whole spectrum of human sexuality. After reading that poem, I'm surprised the professor didn't include it in her curriculum. It would've fit in perfectly with the rest of the subject matter on the day she showed us the sex scene in Brokeback Mountain.
This isn't even about gay sex so much as it is about a dom/sub relationship.

most of Ginsberg's work is pure tripe--though rather amazing because of its style and meter, substantively (except for possibly " Howl " ), the majority is drugged-out garbage
Kerouac on the other hand..........
agree that would be hard to pick a more inappropriate poem for a bunch of high-school students--can't believe the " teacher " had the temerity to recite it--a rather profound lack of judgment
