First I am not defending him or this.

But I will say I have watched him a couple times and those few times, he did preach God's word from the Bible and I found no fault in what he was preaching.

As for the plane, he already has one and has delivered thousands and thousands of pounds of relief aid both in the states and world wide.

I have questions, I would like to know how it is intended to be used, who would have access to it, how do they fund the one they have now?

It isn't something I think of as a tool for spreading God's word and love but when I think about it, anything they do, aid, mission work, speaking engagements, they are going to use a plane. Does it make more sense in the long term to buy instead of rent?

Its going to be cheaper to fly coach, you are sharing the cost amongst others. The G650 runs about $10,000 an hour to fly. It holds 14. So cross country LA to Dulles is 6 hours. That would be $60,000 just to fly the plane of 14 people or $4200 per person.

Then there is the cost of hangers and maintenance. Planes cost a lot just sitting.

Not going to be paying for date nights, golf trips, vacations, security, or any thing else.

Is it the right thing to do? Asking for his congregation to buy this. I don't know really. Seems excessive to me. But then again, it is in house and not coming out of any ones pocket that wouldn't want to give.

So in the end, who cares what they do with their money?

I think God would care. If you are collecting money in HIS name, then I think you would be pretty darn careful of how you spend it.

I read somewhere that the biggest unjustifiable expense to having a private plane is having a pilot. Basically you are paying someone a full salary to sit around and wait for you to want to go somewhere.

Interesting. I never really even thought about a pilot but I imagine they probably make a fairly decent salary.

I just found an article on CNBC about when you should consider buying a private jet versus renting one.

The annual costs of owning a private jet are anywhere from $700,000 to $4M a year.

If you don't fly between 150-200 hours a year, you should rent a jet instead of buy one.

Most jet owners buy second hand aircraft. I didn't see - is the OP trying to buy new? That's a huge no-no for buying a jet for most of the same reasons it's smart to be a newer used car. Depreciation is a killer, especially when you are talking millions of dollars.
