I can't make the linkk live from my phone, can some one give me a hand with it?

There is a short article, and a long video. The video is hilarious, and well worth a watch.

Attempt to break into this house and see just how serious we are about home security.

I have the right to have guns. I don't give a flyin rip what some foreigner has to say about my right.

He can sod off.

Here's the text ...

Australian comedian perfectly sums up why other countries think US gun laws are crazy

Updated by Amanda Taub on March 24, 2015, 11:30 a.m. ET

Australian comedian Jim Jefferies was the victim of a home invasion once. He was tied up and beaten, and his girlfriend was threatened with rape. So you might think he'd sympathize with the idea that Americans want guns to protect their families. Quite the opposite — he does an excellent job of summing up why so many foreigners are baffled by America's gun culture:

In Australia, we had the biggest massacre on earth, and the Australian government went: "That's it! NO MORE GUNS." And we all went, "Yeah, all right then, that seems fair enough, really."

Now in America, you had the Sandy Hook massacre, where little tiny children died. And your government went, "Maybe ... we'll get rid of the big guns?" And 50 percent of you went, "**** YOU, DON'T TAKE MY GUNS."

He continues with a blistering smackdown of the idea that Americans seek guns to keep their families safe:

You have guns because you like guns! That's why you go to gun conventions; that's why you read gun magazines! None of you give a **** about home security. None of you go to home security conventions. None of you read Padlock Monthly. None of you have a Facebook picture of you behind a secure door.

He doesn't see at all how a gun would have helped him when his home was broken into. "I was naked at the time. I wasn't wearing my holster." How exactly would a gun have protected him? he asks. Was he supposed to be crouched at his windowsill, gun ****ed, waiting on high alert for intruders?

By the way. Most people who are breaking into your house just want your ****ing TV! You think that people are coming to murder your family? How many ****ing enemies do you have?

He sums up how I feel about guns pretty well, and is funny.
I didn't think he was terribly offensive, but the language is NSFW.
What did you disagree with, Ed? And thank you for posting the article.

He's a funny comedian, but I'm with ed11563 and Lawyerlady. I disagree with most of what he said.

In America, the largest massacres were perpetrated by the government. That's probably why we feel differently about guns. (excluding terrorist acts that didn't include guns).

Let's see. Hmm..."control" doesn't work for marijuana or prostitution or anything else. But, for some reason gun control is going to work for guns? Yeah.

I know. LOL!

Criminals who will use guns for bad things are not going to follow a "no guns" rule.

I'm all for gun control.

Controlling your gun while cleaning.
Controlling your gun while storing.
Controlling your gun while aiming.
Controlling your gun while firing.

Gun control is very important.

It's like you people are a whole different species.

This IS how Americans are perceived by many other countries.

Who cares how other countries perceive us? It's always us they come running to when they need protection from some rogue nation or help after a natural disaster. We're a great country and we're great for a reason. I perceive the French as snobs so do you think they'll stop acting so snobbish because of how they're perceived by Americans?

Some Americans but not most. Owning a gun is Constitutionally protected. Until the majority of Americans change their minds about it I don't give a damn what someone in Australia thinks about it. I don't tell them what they can and can't do and they don't get to tell me.

 I don't care either.

It's crazy how some care how all those other countries think about us, but they don't see how people will risk life and limb to get into this country.

Yeah. When those other countries stop using this country to take care of their own, maybe they can have an opinion I will care about.

To me, a real American will care more about protecting their fought for rights than restricting them.

I believe that the Sandy Hook massacre would likely have been stopped with a lot less carnage, if some of the teachers and staff members, probably those who already had concealed carry permits, had had their guns available. The schools are not going to spend them money to have armed guards in place, and even if they did, that one guard would be the first target of an ambush.

A quick You Tube search comes up with incidents where a good guy with a gun has saved the gun owner, or family members who knew how to use it.

We are NOT going to be able to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. In England, my understanding is that a criminal using a gun in a crime is subject to life imprisonment,

and just HAVING an unlicensed handgun could get someone sent to prison. Here, I think many of our criminals think they will never be caught, so punishment isn't much of a deterrent.

I would have a shotgun at home, loaded, with a trigger lock, but I'm afraid Spouse might use it on me sometime if she goes into a rage. So I have pepper spray. Better than nothing, imho.

I think that "gun free zones" are one of the dumbest ideas around. All that does is assure murderers that THEY will be the only armed person there. Soft targets made softer. cry

Then nobody should be able to own a car because more people are killed by cars than by guns. Maybe we should make fattening foods against the law because people die of heart attacks. People die all the time from accidents that have nothing to do with guns just stupidity.

There are a lot of handguns in the homes of stupid people, who don't follow basic safety precautions. (A trigger lock being first on MY list.)

A lot of kids get their hands on loaded, unlocked guns left lying around by relatives who are felons, who have them to protect their drugs or drug money.

And the parents don't teach THEIR kids how to be safe with guns.

One "lesson" I've seen on TV for school kids is, if you see a gun (like in a friend's home) leave, go away. Not necessarily a bad lesson, but I know first hand how much little kids WANT TO hold and play with guns.

Now, correct me if I'm mistaken, you have access to the Internet. Now we are much more likely to hear about ANYTHING bad happening.

It's not necessarily true that more bad things are happening; but the reporting is much better.

Those accidents are the result of irresponsible gun owners, not the gun. If you are going to have a gun in your house, you need to first have it stored correctly. And second, educate anyone living in the house. I grew up in a house with guns. I also had a healthy respect for them instilled in me by my father. I knew never to touch the gun - for any reason - without his permission.

Guns do not kill people. They are a tool. An inanimate object. Bad, evil people USE guns to kill people. There is a big difference there.

I did not watch the video since I am at work now.  I like my guns and control them just fine.  I mainly own them for self-defense, as I have been a victim of violence on a number of occasions.  Another reason I have them (but currently don't use them since I no longer am in those situations), is wilderness and other types of survival.

I once saw this shirt online that said "Guns don't kill people.  I kill people".  I would like that shirt.  biggrin

I think all those who want to get rid of guns should go live in one of those places they see as "more civil".

And yeah, the first place a "no gun" person turns to when in trouble is someone with a gun.

Wasp spray is much more effective! Greater distance, pinpoiny accuracy of spray, less chance of "blow back" getting into your face.

No but the drugged out home invader might wish Joe Schmoe didn't have a gun. Oh and I get to have an opinion too. I'm not sure why you think just because we disagree it means I don't think you're allowed to have an opinion.

How about hunting? Keeping your country safe? Protection from criminals? Why do you think you get to decide?

I get to decide FOR MYSELF. I also get to have an opinion.

Please explain to me how the average Joe Schoe with a gun keeps the country safe? Is North Korea cowering in fear?

No but the drugged out home invader might wish Joe Schmoe didn't have a gun. Oh and I get to have an opinion too. I'm not sure why you think just because we disagree it means I don't think you're allowed to have an opinion.

 Oh, I don't know...maybe the bolded?

 What about target shooting?

are you also against archery?

 I don't know too many murders committed with a bow & arrow...evileye

My parents never owned a gun, nor did any friends. It's just foreign to me.

I see mental illness as much greater of an issue than guns. Our country cannot accept and will not do anything for mental illness. In every single shooting the person had some kind of mental illness. I believe we need to address this.
