Do you have an Easter Basket tradition in your house?
What is it? Are there new baskets every year or do you fill the ones you have?
Our kids leave their empty baskets in front of the door. The Easter bunny fills them and hides them. When the kids are young, he leaves a trail of eggs to help them find it, but once they get older - no help!

We had baskets each year for a while. Then as they got older they got smaller. They have gotten gift bags too.
Haven't done an actual basket in years.

I bought them "soft" baskets from Pottery Barn Kids when they were babies. Now I use those as part of my Spring decor around the house. A couple years ago I bought them nice wicker baskets that I fill each year. In fact, since this is the last day I'm home without the boys, I just finished filling them along with 4 dozen plastic eggs. I have everything hidden in a cedar closet in the basement, and before we go to bed the night before Easter, I'll place them on the landing outside their bedroom door. And the eggs will be hidden around the house. We will also die two more dozen real eggs and leave them out for the bunny to hide.
We used the real eggs last year but I worry that by putting them out the night before, they might spoil. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hard boiled eggs that are left at room temperature more than two hours, should be tossed out.
C would get a new bag. J could use a new shelf for game discs. Not sure what to use for A.

When the kids were little, I reused the same baskets every year. I still have them. I don't use them anymore, for fear that the kitties would get sick on the plastic grass.
Now, I just have them decorate paper bags. They seem to enjoy it.
Oh, and I was a mean Mom. When they were little, I told them if they didn't sit nicely in church, the Easter Bunny would come back, and confiscate their baskets! (LOL! It worked! They sat like angels during Mass!)
We always do baskets but we're not doing them this year. Last year we purged and got rid of all our cheap refillable eggs and the dollar baskets. Not worth storing two dollars worth of stuff. Not in our budget this year so no baskets. We're going to dye eggs for the bunny to hide though.

I stopped hiding eggs when the kids were around 10 or 12. They had no interest in it any more.
We dye some cause they are pretty and fun to do.
We use them to decorate the Easter spread and of course any one can eat them.
I always tried to get the kids a chocolate rabbit or duck. And some jelly beans just because.
I do try to get things for the church's Easter stuff.

I haven't done Easter baskets for many years, since the kids have been grown.
But I have a grandbaby this Easter, so I'm back in the biz! Little Man's will have all non-edibles, no sweets.
I remember the first time I gave Itty bitty plastic eggs, with Cheerios inside. She shook them...WOW! Then I showed her how to open one...Best.Thing.Ever!!

That sounds like a great idea to try with Little Man.

I just ran out and bought Mr. FNW a card and chocolate bunny, and cute frosted Easter cookies and cards for the boys, since they still believe in the Easter bunny.

I did the cheerios and goldfish bit. This year it's jelly beans in a few, and change in another. They are into counting and enjoy a little spending money for Toys R Us.
I bought a basket at Hobby Lobby for DD that I refill every year. I suppose I need to get one for Baby A now.
I usually fill it with spring type stuff- new sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and Easter book, I put her first Bible in there a few years ago, and a little bit of candy, small toys, etc.

Oh my gosh! Am I the only one who spent big bucks on Easter candy? (I blew $175 on Daffin's Candy for my crew. Granted, probably $25 or $30 of that was for shipping from Sharon, PA.)
We USUALLY spend a lot on baskets and candy and all the things you have all mentioned. Chocolate bunnies, chalk, coloring books, little things they need like ear phones for their phones. But we just don't have the money this year. I love doing baskets. And honestly, the kids don't NEED the candy. We'll pick up some after Easter on sale. We decided since it's not in our budget we'd scale down to just hard boiled eggs that could be colored and hidden. Hard boiled eggs can be repurposed into so many things.

I understand about the budget, NJN.
What surprised me, was folks putting toys and books and whatnot, in the Easter basket.
It's just always been all about the candy at my house.
We did a mixture. The toys were never anything expensive. Sometimes a pair of ear phone buds we got for a buck at Target. Just a lot of cute little things we would put in there to fill up the baskets. And candy. A lot of candy.

I loathe that stupid easter grass. So I never used it. I would use tissue or something else.
Like I said, I haven't really done baskets since the kids were around 12.
They still get something but not like they once did.
Was at the store this evening, J wanted a big gallon size of bubbles. I got them. That's the stuff I use to put in their baskets.
It was $2.

When DD was born I told my mom and my MIL that any Easter grass in her basket would stay at their house - I would NOT bring the grass home. Well, my piece of work MIL bought some. When it was time to go home she handed me the basket with a smile. I grabbed all the grass out of it and handed it back to her with a smile and said "I wasn't kidding!"
We reused the baskets every year. I hid them and they had to find them. My mom also bought them baskets and wrote limericks to give them clues about where they were hidden. The girls LOVED it!

I remember my mom vacuuming up so much of that stuff! And it getting hung up.

We used small - REALLY small - baskets, and put a wide assortmet of goodies in them - mostly home-made cookies, muffins, cupcakes, etc., and very little candy.
I always cooked and dyed 2 cases of eggs for our church egg hunt for the little ones. The toddlers went first, and spotted the "nests" that were in plain sight. The age groups went up from there, and our hiding places got more and more creative. There was usually only one egg out of 288 that was not found, and I kind of think it was just not reported!
What to do with left over hard cooked eggs . . . . .
I know I've posted this before, but here it is again
Daisy Eggs
one hard cooked egg per serving well-seasoned medium white sauce chive stems toast
Shell the egg, and cut in half lengthwise. Remove the yolk & put through a fine sieve. Cut the whites lengthwise into 12 long pieces. Arrange pieces on toast on a plate to resemble the numbers on a clock, with a large empty space in the middle. Put the sieved yolk in the middle, and arrange one whole chive to resemble a stem. Cover all with the white sauce, and season with salt and white pepper. Voila! Daisy Eggs.
We do a combination in the baskets of candy and little toys, just because I don't want them to get all candy. So much candy for every holiday these days, and I throw most of it away!
Baby J is getting some sparkle playdoh, a bubble whistle and the new Tinkerbell movie in hers. DD10 is getting a really small Lego friends set and the new Big Hero Six movie.

I use the paper grass, rather than that plastic stuff that got everywhere. This stuff still gets everywhere, but it's easier to vacuum up. I buy it at World Market. I think it's made with recycled cardboard or something.
I ordered some handmade soaps in the shapes of bunnies, chicks, and cupcakes from a local farm. Picking those up Monday, those are for DD's basket, maybe a couple for DS but somehow I don't think he will appreciate them as much as DD. We are coloring Easter eggs tomorrow. Need to cook them tonight so they are ready for tomorrow.
