'People are asking me if I was sexist': Meghan Trainor reveals she didn't expect to get antifeminism backlash from Dear Future Husband music video

In her latest music video, she portrays a dutiful housewife who cooks and cleans while demanding to be bought diamond rings and called beautiful.

And nearly a month after releasing her fifties inspired Dear Future Husband video, Meghan Trainor expressed her shocked reaction to controversial claims that the visual images from her track are antifeminist.

'Just surprised the random places people are asking me I was being sexist,' the 21-year-old singer told MTV recently.

Certain clips from Meghan's Dear Future Husband video sparked backlash when fans noticed she was sending out the wrong message about domesticity.

Twitter user @LindsayDoucet commented negatively writing: 'I'm having trouble articulating in 140 characters or less how brutally sexist/anti-feminist Meghan Trainor's Dear Future Husband song is.'

@OneManStands also chimed in: 'Those praising Meghan Trainor's feminist message on All About That Bass will want to stay away from Dear Future Husband.'

In the music video, the recording artist can be seen scrubbing the floor and baking in the kitchen while prancing around in tight-fitting corset outfits.

But her tongue in cheek lyrics say otherwise. Meghan assured fans that she is no Stepford wife, instead she is just vocalizing what qualities she would like to see from her future spouse.

'Just surprised the random places people are asking me if I was being sexist,' she said in an interview with MTV.

'But no, I don't believe I was. I think I was just writing my song to my future husband out there, wherever he is. He's chilling right now, taking a minute getting ready for me; it's going to be great.'

If fans take into consideration that her music video is a playful spin on the lyrics of Dear Future Husband, they may find that she is indeed not an anti-feminist.
