So my second grand baby is due any day now. This one is a boy. If you remember, I had Sweetness's picture made in my grandfather's 100 year old Christening gown. Its AMAZING. So I told her I wanted the new baby's picture in it and she said that it was girly and she wasn't sure. Um, yeah, its a gown. Its over 100 years old. I think its an honor not many people get. If she bucks me on this small request that doesn't hurt a soul, I will be crushed. I mean really? Its not like I'm going to parade him around town. I just want one picture...

Umm, all christening gowns are girly, it's tradition. What does she plan to dress him in? One of those stupid white baby tuxedos that hold no sentimental value?

She is a fool, doesn't get it. I know how nice a pic of the boy in the dress would look fantastic to the pic of the girl in the same dress. Treasured moments.

Lay on the guilt. Tell her you would hate for the baby to grow up and see all the pics of all your grandchildren in the gown and think that you don't love him as much as you love the others. If every grandchild participates in this wonderful family tradition except for her kids, she may regret it years later and it will be too late to go back and take the pics. But once they have been taken, she doesn't need to own or display one if she doesn't want to.
And she can always use another gown for the actual christening if she really wants to. Although she would be a fool to.

Mr. FNW's Christening gown was too small for my boys, as we didn't get them baptized until they were about 6 months old. We dressed them in those "stupid white baby tuxedos", as you call them, and they were adorable. For sentimentality, they wore sweaters knitted by their grandmother.
I know they are babies and the whole "gown" thing isn't really gender specific, my boys just seemed way too feisty and boyish to put them in a dress.
My grandmother made my christening gown, all my siblings, both my boys were christened in it. I sent it to DIL for DGS's baptism. She took a photo of him in it, but then had a brand new outfit for the actual event. She didn't bother for baby 2,3,4. For all I know, she's either trashed it, or donated it to her "poor relatives" in Mexico.

Sorry about that comment. They are only stupid if you are passing up a family gown. Not stupid in your situation.

Mine was in one of those outfits too FNW. He didn't fit in the family heirloom.
