Here's one way to bug your teachers.
Seniors at Chopticon High School in Maryland left a mark on their school in more ways than one -- in 72,000 ways to be exact. A group decided their senior prank would be to release 72,000 ladybugs to freely roam the hallways, according to the St. Mary’s County’s Sheriff’s Office.
Five suspects wearing masks and hoodies forced open the school’s back door around 3:40 a.m. on May 20 and spread the ladybugs before leaving, authorities said. Police told ABC News that two others did not enter the school at the time, but instead waited in a car.
Of the seven people involved, four are juveniles being charged with fourth-degree burglary, property destruction under $1,000 and disruption of school activities. The three adult males will be charged by criminal summons, police said.
None of the students have been identified by name.

A group of students ordered the ladybugs online for about $100, according to senior Eric Maxey, who was not involved in the night of the prank. He said about 75 seniors pitched in money to help pay for the bugs.
“Everyone was obviously laughing the next morning because it was so unique,” said Maxey. “It didn’t cause any damage and the school had already bagged up most of them by our second period.”
Janitors from local schools came to help clean up the ladybugs and were armed with vacuums on their backs, said sophomore Trinity Alexander.

School officials decided one senior involved will not be allowed to walk at graduation this Wednesday. Students protested that decision this morning before their graduation practice, according to Alexander, who helped organize the protest.
Chopticon High School officials did not immediately respond to ABC News’ request for comment.
Maxey said 2015 marks "our school’s 50th graduating class and this was us leaving our mark in a memorable way."
I don't know. Ladybugs are becoming a big pest here in PA. They are the indigenous lady bugs, but an Asian beetle ladybug that someone had a brilliant idea to release for pest control in huge quantities in PA. Now, there are homes over run with them and you cannot kill them with pesticides.
DD's graduating class let out 1000 crickets into the school. And that was a LOT of crickets. It's 6 years later and the principal's office still has chirping in it if you listen carefully. That was only 1000. I can't imagine 72,000 of something. That's a crap ton.

We did the crickets. And a greased piglet in the gym.
Other than the forcing of the doors, it seems pretty harmless to me.

Down here in south Texas, ladybugs are our FRIENDS! They are a natural, non-chemical pest control. They eat aphids, spider mites, and all sorts of other garden enemies. They do not eat leaves or damage your plants. I like the creativity of the students. I just hope the janitors released the ladybugs once they got them outside. :)
DD was obsessed with ladybugs when she was little. She used to catch them outside and bring them in the house. She had a cupboard in the bathroom that she set up to be a lady bug apartment. It had a bed and furniture from her dollhouse. We called it the ladybug graveyard because that's what it turned into. She said they were sleeping. Uh huh.

Same here.
My in-laws in PA experience the lady bug problem every year. I guess they hatch somewhere in their siding or window sills or whatever and go into the house. Thousands every year. <snicker, snicker>

Lots of comments saying nobody got hurt, no harm done, etc.
How do you think the janitors are going to get rid of them? Probably kill them all. That's 72,000 creatures getting hurt.
Some folks may have no regard for these living things, but I think it's sad to kill living creatures for a stupid reason. (and I hope I'm wrong and the janitors are just releasing them all somehow without killing them. )
Go ahead and flame me all you want.

Schools around here are treated regularly, so I figure all are. So that will take care of a lot of them.
It is pretty harmless prank.

Unless it's a spider. Or some other creepy crawly that invades your comfort zone.

The ladybugs were sucked up with vacuums. It does not say what happened to them after that - maybe they were released outside, maybe they were not. Don't know.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
Good question. Maybe they do. Maybe they don't. But they are still living things. And if they were killed, what a callous disregard for a whole colony of living things. That did nothing to bother anybody.
Yeah, if termites are eating my house, they might get killed. Same with mosquitoes who attack. But these bugs did nothing to anybody.

I am sure they are released on the farm, free to roam and eat aphids.
Actually the vac was emptied into a dumpster. Any survivors flew out.
Bugs don't need any help to survive. They survived before vacuums and they will survive after vacuums. If they come into my house, they are getting sucked into my vac. I don't care what happens to them.
I graduated from high school in January, part of the last mid-year class the school district had. We had all started kindergarten in January.
The graduation ceremony was held in June with the class after us. I didn't go.
finished my bachelor's degree in March, after the school changed from semesters to quarters, and I found I could complete the requirements by taking 20 hours my last quarter. Again, ceremony was held in June. I didn't go.
Masters' degree a year later, but no ceremony for grad school.
The last graduation ceremony of mine I went to was ...
6th grade.
Walked the stage in the auditorium, got the certificate and left. It felt like a milestone.
