A drop in, with 5 burners. May cost about $1600 but well worth it. Will have to redo your counters so the drop in fits.

Just use the grill. All the time.

Yes, to some extent.  I mean, I really don't need a $6000 stove per se.  And, I don't really use convection or the self cleaning thing.  What I really want is hot, hot BTUs on the burners and a good oven that maintains its temp well.  I don't like a lot of stupid electronics.  I just need to turn the dial or set it.  I dont' need settings for pizza or anything like that.

For a basic gas stove that has HOT burners and an oven that works, take a look at the Salvation Army stores. (call first).

People upgrade to new, fancy ones and donate their old ones.

012505509537.jpgI was looking at Dacor but that seems to have pretty lousy reviews. I like Jenn Air but there is no Jenn Air dealer around. The Frigidaire seems to have really good reviews. And, they are actually American Made.

I'm a little confused by this picture. How many top burners are there? three? Isn't that unusual?

I took a close look at the controls. It looks like there are 5 burners, and the oven controls are electronic, not knobs.

Do not buy Frigidaire. In the past 10 years, the quality has sunk. And as for re configuring your counter tops to accommodate a drop in, you are maybe talking shaving off a 1/2 inch on either side it any at all. Don't count it out. with a drop in your oven can be wider and the top as well.

Get a stove with the knobs on the top. Not the front, especially with gas. All it takes to blow up the house is one inconsiderate guest to lean up against the controls and so the knobs move enough for gas to escape.

Good point.

Consumer Reports talked about knob placement a while ago.  I think they said that you want the knobs where little kids can't reach them (like there's someplace a little kid can't reach!), but you also don't want to be reaching over a lit burner to reach the knob to shut it off.

Kidde / Nighthawk makes CO detectors that also sense explosive gasses (i.e. unburned hydrocarbons) like leaking natural gas or propane.

I just bought a couple at Home Depot. Not expensive.

The drop ins are all the same brands but without the backsplash.  So, why would that be any better quality?

Gives the kitchen a more updated look plus food can't get wedged between the side of the stove and the cabinets.

OK, but the quality of the stove is still the same.

Doesn't this ignore where she is going to put her oven?

OK, narrowing it down. The Samsung reportedly has problems maintaining oven temp. The LG has knob problems. The Frigidaire has problems with the glass getting stained and yucky. Now, I am back to Kenmore.

Kenmore is a Sears store brand. There is no Kenmore factory anywhere, the appliances are made by other companies. Find out which company makes the Kenmore you are considering.

The kids made a fire pit out of concrete blocks. I was thinking of getting one of those patio pits.

I've been wanting one for a while.

Have you seen the "table" type firepits? They have a cover.

When Jesse was about 10 he called them cat roasters.

LG makes a lot of Kenmore. Convection ovens are awesome. They cook/bake food a lot quicker but arent' as harsh as microwaves. The warming things would be a waste for me.

Yeah, I see no use whatsoever for a warming drawer. It's fine if you will use it but I know I won't. I don't like to get things with features I won't use. I am leaning toward the first one I posted. I like simple. And, I like knobs for the oven instead of a Control panel. I don't like an electronic pad and don't need a bunch of extra settings to tell me how to cook pizza.

I use my Frigidaire convection frequently - especially if cooking for a crowd. Once you get used to the timing, you'll love it.

Yeah, I really wanted a professional stove. I HATE electronics with warming drawers and bells and whistles. But, this has plenty of BTU power to make me happy with an 18.2K and 14K burner. That is really all I need. I like the slide ins as they look more professional but have a son on the verge of going to college so might as well save a few bucks. This stove was $899

Slide ins are so much better, IMO.  It's what I have!  But they are a lot pricier, because they don't have the sides, the capacity is larger.

Doesn't whirlpool make most brands these days?

I have convection, rarely use it. I'll use it more on my toaster oven than on my regular oven. I have self-cleaning, but the one and only time I used it, it heated so hot it melted something in the oven and I had to have it replaced. So oven-off for me from now on.

I store baking sheets in my warming oven. I do use the warmer on the stove top though. (I have electric). I also use the warm function on my microwave. It really works.

When this one needs replacing, we'll convert to gas. We didn't when we bought this one, because at the time the boys were about 2, grabbing everything, and I was afraid they'd turn the knobs and burn themselves. Hindsight I should have done it anyway, because I never left them alone and that stage didn't last long.
