Grand kids did it twice. Darn brats. We had a very serious conversation with them, as in, what if someone was REALLY in trouble and YOU were wasting the police/medics time? Granted, they were 4 and 6 at the time, but man was I ticked! And, yes, all phone calls are traced automatically. Even cell phones have the chip for emergency location always on. Dumb kids.

Faith isn't something that keeps bad things from happening. Faith is what helps us get through bad things when they do happen.
One of our friends pre-schooler learned about how to call 911at pre-school and tried it. The officer gave him quite a lecture (with the parents blessing) about how serious it is to call 911 and not to call without a emergency.
The combination of dialing 9 to get an outside line and international calls results in accidental 911 hang-up calls from the plant a few times a month. The dispatcher will call and say "another 911 call, everything ok?" I say yes, sorry and she laughs and hangs up.
The first time I got the dispatchers call, I was unaware that this happens often. I called our guard and asked if we were having any emergency. He was like, um, I don't think so, are we? Shouldn't you know that dude?!? You're the freaking security guard! Lol
We used to have a guy in the nursing home who could only remember the number 911. We had to, by law, provide a phone for the residents to call out on. He would call 911 all the time. Sometimes several times a day. The police would stop by and walk in and walk out. They took their time and usually stopped at the Whataburger next door.
I worked in another nursing home where whenever this woman wanted something she would call 911. She'd dial and tell them the nurse needed to bring her a blanket. Don't know how many times we explained to her to use her call button and not 911 but it never worked.

Really? They are lucky, or not as strict as here. My grandma has dementia and is in a retirement home and called 911 a few times (all for dementia induced delusions). The first time they gave her a warning, talked to my mom and uncle and were given the situation to which they were very understanding, but the second and third time she called we had to beg them not to take her in.
The last time a policeman came to my door was to tell me that DH1 was dead.

Oh, I'm so sorry.
I understand. The kids didn't know that though I'm sure. They were just being foolish kids.

I am mean. I would go to the kids' mothers and tell them exactly what you said. That the last time a policeman knocked at your door... Those kids should learn their lessons then. IF the parents are worth anything.

How do you know the neighborhood kids called? One time, DH and I had just gotten home from a 12 hr drive after a week at Outer Banks. We got home like 11pm and went straight to bed. At about 2 am, we heard furious pounding on the door that scared the crapload out of us. When we went to the door, there was an officer who said that 911 had been called. We were like, No we didn't call, we were asleep in bed. The Officer insisted there was a call from our number and home which was not true. We told him No, that was not us and he left but acted like we were guilty of some stupid prank or something. Later on , it was in the paper that they were have some issues with their 911 system. But, yes that scared us and I certainly didn't like the cop acting like we were guilty of something we didn't do.
Verified what address? Your address or the neighborhood kid? Either way , so what? I already told you about my experience which was a false alarm. So, I don't think you need to worry about it is all I am saying.

Verified my address, to make sure he had the right house.
Can I also add that I fell down the bottom 2 steps & now my big toe hurts a lot? Geeks sure hurt their fingers & toes...
My roommate many years ago had a 4 yo boy who would call the operator & tell her his mommy left & he was scared, etc. We didn't know until the police would show up. We had to unplug the upstairs phone.

Someone may have reported the wrong address.

My dads cousins kid did almost the same thing. She called and said she was left alone with no food for several days. This was while his cousin was cooking dinner. All kinds of cops should up at the door. She spanked her dd right in front of the police. This was in the early 50.s
Both children have threatened to call 911 due to my grounding or other such punishment. I told them both to go right ahead that I would love the police to take them away for a few days so I could have some peace. Yeah, neither one took me up on the offer and haven't threatened it since.

I also dared my kids to call. Except I told my kids if I was going to jail for child abuse, I would make it worth my while and whoop their azzes first. Seemed to work, they didn't call and joke about it now. I also told them I hoped the cops put me in solitary confinement because I could use the peace and quiet.
They knew I was being silly...and they got the point.
