the dalai lama was once quoted as saying: " there is nothing that you MUST do. there is nothing that you MUST be. "
part of an amazing treatise on Western thought and Western civilization
How many children did the dalai lama raise and chauffeur to softball, hockey, band practice, scouts, plus work a full time job to pay the bills that included a 2 hour + commute a day? yeah he/she lives in India, not the greater Boston area.

I use to be guilty of always doing. Going to the point of physical illness.
There is a reason we are called human beings. It's to remind us to slow down from time to time.

My consolation is to remember that there are people who have never had to-do lists.
Most of them are middle-aged unemployed moochers living in their parents' basement.
I have never thought of life as a series of to do lists. Ever. It sounds weird to even have people say that. I have some days where I am really busy and other days where I am not. On the days that I am not busy I take time to enjoy my dogs and kids and husband when he is home.

I don't know. I never really do lists. I see something that needs doing and I do it.
Always been that way.

Really when my mom declined and went to Assisted Living there was no longer anything left for her to do . No dishes to wash. No groceries to buy. No cleaning or vacuuming. Nothing except sitting and waiting for the next meal. And she wasn't well enough to play bingo or go out or socialize. It was very sad. A kind of death for a once active woman.
I just try to appreciate what I am doing and who I am with at the moment. Although I do need to shave my legs. Maybe I should start a to do list.

I miss being a human being. I'm currently a toy-holding, food-giving jungle gym/nap station hybrid.
Don't shoot me...but I miss those times.

I'm sure I will when he's older. Right now, one of life's simple pleasures is actually being able to watch the TV instead of the back of his head. I should buy him a pedometer. I bet he'd crack a million steps most days.
