Just what it sounds like. How do you de-stress and what do you do to take care of yourself? Especially from work. This is part of my final paper for school. I've already written about what I do but am looking for other ideas to incorporate.
For me, the good things are that I like to read and cook. I love being at the beach and in any kind of water but that rarely happens (no pool, 2 hour drive to beach). The bad habits are that I tend to stress eat and do not get enough sleep.
So, good or bad, how do you deal with stress? What do you do to take care of yourself?
I use to get in my car, put the windows down, the radio up and drive.
Now I watch Supernatural, the show or clips and fan vids.
I draw, goof around with the kids, play games.

I ask my DH to give me a 5 minute shoulder massage - he has GREAT hands!

I go for a drive, with no destination in mind. I'm the kind of driver who never insists "I was next !" -I'll let the other guys go ahead, and I'll probably meet up with them at the next red light!
Lots of ways. Sometimes I get in my car (without kids) and drive with the music up, sometimes I take a bath and read a book, sometimes I connect with someone (phone call or in person) to have a real conversation.
Thirty minute walk (non stop) every other day. Read. Watch Clint Eastwood DVDs. Go into the city and watch the people while sitting in one of the parks.
My mom was saying on vacation how she prefers the mountains. I asked her why, she lives in the mountains.
Not kidding. No matter which way you look there is a wall called a mountain. It drives me crazy.
I love being at the beach. Being able to see for miles and miles. It's very freeing.

When I used to have a car, I would love driving all over the city and to outlying towns.

Play Word Mole on my old Blackberry Curve (There is no Word Mole for my BB Z-10)
Do physical therapy.I work up a good sweat doing reps in six different exercises a visit, which are rotated with every visit, so I do not do the same workout two days in a row.The electrical stimulation machine is attached to my right quads for at least 4 of the exercises at each visit.I turn up the voltage until it is painful enough to tolerate, then I work out (I have a high pain threshold in general - except for when I stub any of my toes, then all bets are off!LOL).Each visit lasts 45 minutes to an hour depending on the types of exercises done.I have been doing PT five days a week since May 1st, and it is a release for me.Have not missed a day yet.I have also noticed that my core is tightening up, which is great.I am getting fit while my knee is getting stronger.Sweet!
When I lived next to the ocean, I would take a walk around the the neighborhood and then sit on a boulder mesmerized by the crashing waves. The power of the ocean is unmatched.
Now I go for a walk every night.

I used to ride my bike and rollerskate for hours. Just around our block. Over and over. I don't see much of that in my 'hood. Probably because we don't have sidewalks. Kids ride their bikes up the street, and that's it. Once. They probably stop at a friend's house and go inside and play nintendo.
Growing up we had chores. Yardwork type of chores. Pulling weeds, trimming bushes, etc. Dad would trim, mom would rake into piles, and we kids bent over and picked up piles and put in trash bags. Dad put in our used brick patio. He received a big shipment of brick from an old firehouse. The old mortar needed to be chiseled off the brick so Dad could lay it. Our job was to chisel. Our reward was to go swimming in our pool and cool off when we were done. Another thing I don't see much in our 'hood. Everyone has a gardener.
I think I posted this on the wrong thread.
