Proud mother-of-six Sam backed little Joseph (pictured, as Ellie-Jo) when he asked for a pink cake and princess toys for his birthday
A nine-year-old boy who has wished he is a girl since he was just two-years-old is preparing to go back to school as a female.
Joseph Hughes, from Rhyl, north Wales, asked for a wig for Christmas and wears a dress when out with mum Sam, 41, as he makes the transition to becoming alter-ego, Ellie-Jo.
The youngster has been playing with Barbie dolls and painting his nails after showing his feminine side as a toddler.
Proud mother-of-six Sam backed little Joseph when he asked for a pink cake and princess toys for his birthday.
She first noticed that Joseph wished to be a girl when he turned his back on playing football with his boy friends in favour of dressing-up with older sister Francesca, 15.
Sam said: 'He's a bright boy and his school grades are all good but he's a real girly-girl and doesn't like football or anything like that.
'Joseph is the one who has made this choice.
'If I'd have dressed him up as a girl from the start then he wouldn't have had a clue - but all this has come from him and I just let him get on with it.
'Some days he'll come home from school and put a dress on, some days it'll be a t-shirt and jeans.
'It's easier for him to dress-up and paint his nails when he's indoors at the moment because he can still get a little embarrassed when someone notices his nails.
'He's started going out in a dress when he is with me so that'll prepare him for when he has to go out on his own and do it.
'He wants to back to school as a girl in September.'
When Joseph - who also has a sister Victoria, 20, as well as brothers Owen, 11, Guy, seven, and Eric, six - dons his blonde wig he becomes Ellie-Jo.

Mother Sam insists she leaves it up to the youngster to decide his gender, and found it little surprise when he chose to wear a princess dress to his school's non-uniform day.
Obsessed with Barbie films, princesses and ballerinas, Joseph is desperate to grow his own long hair.
His bed is covered with girl's duvet covers and he often prefers knickers to underpants.
Sam said: 'What child at the age of nine chooses to go outside dressed as a girl?
'As an adult that would not be normal. I wouldn't do that - that's bravery.
'He's my son and I will back him all the way whatever he wants to do.

'If he turns around in five years' time and says I want to be a boy or I want to make the change permanent then I will never stand in his way.'
Experts insist that they want to wait until Joseph's hormones develop by the time he is 11-years-old to see if his decision is a lasting choice.
But Sam has no doubt in her mind that Joseph has gender dysphoria.
Sam said: 'He is definitely more confident as Ellie-Jo and more content in himself.
'I just wanted to raise awareness because I had no idea about this until Joseph started acting more like a girl when he was two.
'I want to help other families feel as secure and comfortable with it as I am.'

Is he really wanting to be a girl or does he just like playing dress up and doing other stereotypical 'girl' things? I can't help but feel like a parent's support in this could also be really damaging.
*I freely admit, most of what I know about gender dysphoria and similar things, I learned from TG, so I am no expert.
He should take acting lessons and join the local theater. It would be a great outlet for his creative role playing.

Now here is an example of a bad parenting decision. Instead of teaching her child how to channel this into proper outlets until he is old enough to actually KNOW, she is just giving into what is very likely a phase. And it's going to haunt him. He will be teased and bullied - and that isn't right, but it is reality.

I know people in the UK. Not everyone is all thrilled and happy about some of this stuff. The media portrays other countries as being so accepting. Not always true.

The media has a liberal agenda.

It's just the stupidest damn thing I've ever heard. The child hasn't even gone through PUBERTY, yet. Why are people in such a hurry to let kids make life altering decisions? They are CHILDREN.

Flan, what chance do you think this little boy is going to have?

And what about the kid in class who has been crawling on the floor, eating from a bowl and trying to drink from the toilet?
This parent is not helping this child. They are hurting him in ways that can never be fixed.

With the support of his family & friends? A good one.
Not everyone in the world is narrow-minded.

If he really is transgender, then yea, it's great he has so much support.. but what if he's not? What if it is just a weird phase his mother is not only encouraging, but publicizing? That would be very confusing and painful for a kid.

Did you realize that a DOG is not a human being?

His DNA is male, his chromosomes are male., nothing they could ever do to change that. He is not a girl even though he thinks he is. The pc has gotten so out there that people/children who need psyh. help can't/wont get help because the pc says this is the new normal.... Or is a phase and does not understand the consequences of going to school dressed as a girl. Regardless of whether I'm wrong or right He may not be up to being made fun of everyday. The United States are not the only ones who has kids that are bratty.
What about 2, 5, 10, 50 years from now? When this boy has had to live with this decision his parents made?
If these parents really wanted to help their son, they'd find a therapist for him to talk to. They'd talk to one too.

You don't just give into your child's every whim. Co-Worker learned this the hard way. Her and her husband are very much into the "hipster" lifestyle. Their (then) 10 year old son wanted to grow out his hair and pierce his ears, as many of the adult men he had been around had done. That didn't go over so well in school. The was teased RELENTLESLY. The teachers often called him a girl (until the figured out he was a boy, his name was Taylor).
Parents are to protect their kids. They don't bend over backwards to make sure their life will be a living hell...

Protecting them is showing love. Indulging them to the point of depression (and this child WILL be. He is going to be teased mercilessly) is not loving your child. It's driving an agenda.

Actually, no one knows that.

I would bet my house on it.

Yes. We do know it. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together would know that.

Yeah. Two redneck brain cells that know how kids are no matter where they are.
Kids tease anything that isn't normal.

No kids don't tease each other or no you won't answer the question?
