passport photos??? Hold the phone. Where are you going?

I need to bring Sonny to the vet for that doggie virus shot. I am kenneling him this week because I have no dog walker in the neighborhood this week. They are all on vacation this week with their families. DD is going to her grandmother's for the week. My work hours may be long and I don't want to have to worry about him. His BFF is already at the kennel because his family went on vacation so at least he will have a buddy there.

I have a hair appt and then going to a friend's for a cookout this afternoon. Fun day, no housework!

Waiting for the rain to come here today too. Cayman sounds like fun!

Need to do a few errands today and a couple of small chores around the house.  Tomorrow will probably be a stay in bed with DH day.

Just got work this morning that I won a grant/scholarship for $2,000 from a different part of the Lodge I belong to. That covers all of Fall 2015 and part of Spring 2016 semesters. WooHoo! I almost did not apply since every other one I have applied to has said that I was not financially eligible (make too much money) but there were no financial requirements for this one. I think I am the first non-traditional student to get it. They gave out 25 scholarships total.

Today is kind of a laid back day. I need to pick up 15 cases of water for another function of the Lodge called the UN Pilgrimage for Youth. I get to do it again in two weeks plus a bunch of snacks before we feed 165 kids dinner when they come in from all over the world. This is only for three of the eight buses total.

Here is a snippet about the program.  What they don't say is that it is an all-expense paid trip where the kids go from DC to NYC to Niagara Falls (Canadian side).

This unique Educational Program was established by The Sovereign Grand Lodge Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1949 when the United Nations was just a four year old “toddler.” Annually the UN Pilgrimage brings together high school students from around the world to study and learn about the United Nations. For young adults interested in world affairs, international relations, economics and/or political sciences this is an opportunity of a lifetime to observe the United Nations in person while exchanging views on education, politics and religion. Students tour the United Nations building and listen to behind-the-scenes briefings conducted by specialized United Nations agencies and departments including Ambassadors, Minister Counselors and Country Representatives. Each student (delegate) will participate in in-depth discussions with other young people from around the world as well as make new and lifelong friends. In addition, students experience one of the greatest cities in the world: New York. Attending a Broadway play; St. Patrick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Center and much more.

In the years since it was established, over 43,000 people have participated in the UN Pilgrimage. Growing in popularity, the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth program has been garnering growing public attention in the United States, Canada and abroad. The National Association of Secondary School Principals has placed this program on the advisory List of National Contests and Activities.

I just spent the last 2 hours cleaning out the desk. I found bills from 2005 in there and statements from a house loan we paid off 4 years ago.

This time there was a criminal ring discovered.  These people were able to hack or buy from hackers, debit card info and recreate the cards.  Apparently they have a credit card making machine, even right down to the info on the magnetic strip.

I have to take SS to the library before it closes so he can turn in his reading list for two awards. I also need to get him some fruit to snack on and run by the bank. DH decided we should buy DN and her boyfriend a house warming present for when they move in together next month.

Last night it stormed so badly here! We lost power. And Carlee hates the storms with a passion. She wouldn't get off me. Eventually I medicated her! I am not ashamed. She freaks when the weather is bad. I gave her some herbal supplement the vet recommended to calm her down.

flan, he got a t-shirt for reading. He has a goal and he's going to try to reach it. He's read eight Hardy Boys books and two books on the Alamo. I don't know the series of it but it's a series of books written about different times in history from the viewpoint of kids. The books are written like diaries. He loves them.

It's a usual Saturday for me. Started off with PT this am. New exercises are really giving me a workout. I have started squats, and my knee feels it. They are brutal, but the more I do, the easier it gets!

Now I am sitting at the mall having breakfast so I can take my pills. Will go visit with my senior friends afterwards. Then have free time. I am not visiting my other friends this week. I was there last week to celebrate his birthday and got all these bug bites (over 70+, from what I counted). They itched quite a bit so I had to buy soothing remedies at the CVS up the street. She admitted to me that they had a bug problem when I called her to let her know. She apologized but did not sound very sincere. She said they will call someone to come in and spray. So I let them know I will not be visiting until they eliminate the bug problem. It would have been great if she had told me before I came over.  At least they are not bedbugs. So far, I have not been bitten in my house or seen any bugs there, so I am good. The bites are a week old and can still be seen, though they do not itch.

Hoping everyone has a good weekend!

Back from the library! SS won a backpack with the name our town and library on it, a toothbrush, a free pizza at Pizza Hut, and a hamburger at McDonald's. He got another reading list and checked out more books. He's a happy camper. I let him go across the street and cash in his personal pizza coupon while I was next door shopping. I picked up a bunch of fruit for him to snack on. Hit the bank too. Now to work out! They have promised to leave me alone to work out since I have done the library thing.

My kids love the library.  I can hardly wait for the new one to open up.  It's going to be six times what it is now!   They picked funky colors though.  Orange and lime green and deep purple.

Anyway, they did their chores while I worked out!

I've been at the nursing home since 9:30 this morning.

I'll probably hang till 7 tonight.

Then go find some dinner.

Chris seems a little better than yesterday.

But, she's scary weak.

I'm still hoping for the best.

Sending good thoughts your way, FWM.

#2 loves going to the library. #1, not so much. But he loves to read. So I find the series he enjoys, and put them on hold so all he has to do is pick them up and check them out.

Spent the afternoon at a friend's whose yard is fenced in so Sonny was able to go and run around. She had awesome steaks, from a fresh cow, local farm, wow so good. Came home and took Sonny on a walk around the 'hood. Took an hour since everyone was out socializing. Love that! Sonny is exhausted now and should be good for the rest of the evening.

DD is so excited since her summer baby sitter's mom is taking them to the library every week this summer. DD devours books.

Well, he WANTS to read Hardy Boys right now. He doesn't do change well. We had the hardest time transitioning him from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books to Hardy Boys. I'm thrilled he's reading. And he reads fast because he's smart (but sometimes lazy). He reads way above his grade level.

 It was just a suggestion.

And as one mom to another, long around 4th or 5th grade he will probably run out of books in the school library and that will cause the grade to drop.

INSIST they get books from the middle school for him or that they provide you a list of books you can get from the public library.

I had to do this with Jesse. It was a process though.

I got the book Polar Shift in a discount bin for 2 bucks. I thought it looked interesting. I read it in two days.

I was talking about it to Jesse, he was about 10ish, and told him I thought he would like it.

We keep our books in one place, we "shop" it regularly.

Any way. If you come across one of his books, they're good.
