After commenters on Reddit called her boyfriend 'fat' and 'disgusting,' one young woman hit back at online bullies, calling them 'shallow and rude' and adding that she has, in fact, 'won the jackpot' when it comes to her beau.
The hurtful comments came after Ashley Stevens, 21, from Georgia, snapped an adorable and hilarious moment with her boyfriend Christopher Reed, also 21, after she caught the bouquet at a friend’s wedding.
In the selfie, a grinning Ashley can be seen holding the flowers while sitting next to Christopher who is putting on a stunned expression as her father shoots him a stern look. The sweet set up was silly enough that Ashley's friend thought she'd post it on Reddit so others could share in the joke.

Insulted: The couple, who have been together for two and a half years, were shocked to find people on Reddit calling Christopher 'fat' and 'disgusting'
But it wasn't the funny expressions or story that the readers were interested in. Instead, hateful comments began to pour onto the thread.
'That fatty would be lucky to marry that hot b***h,' wrote one, with another adding: 'If I looked like him...and l was dating her... l wouId wife her up real quick.'
'Hey Tubbo... marry that girl... you're never going to find better!' advised another.
One cruel joker wrote: 'Do you know why she's with him? Gravitational pull.'
One user even suggested that Ashley's dad was making the stern face because 'as a good father he wouldn't want his daughter to be saddled with the crippling medical debt that enormous boyfriend of hers would no doubt accrue in his life'.

Happy together: Ashley came to the defense of her boyfriend on Facebook, saying she was surprised at how people were able to judge him without knowing him
The cruel taunts were mainly aimed at Christopher's size but some also suggested that his appearance made him look like he was 'missing a chromosome'.
'Is her boyfriend somewhere behind the fat and mildly retarded gentleman?' asked one user, while others just asked if Christopher had Down Syndrome.
The awful comments were not taken lightly by Ashley, who has been with her boyfriend for more than two and a half years.
Horrified, she took to Facebook to defend Christopher, writing that she was surprised at how quickly he was judged by absolute strangers.

'Well let me just tell you, I won the jackpot with Christopher,' said Ashley. 'He may not have rock hard abs like the world tells girls to want in a guy, but really, why does that even matter when you are trying to really find someone to spend the rest of your life with?
'He is so thoughtful and patient, he always shows me how he loves me in little ways, he is my best friend. I love him for who he is and he loves me for who I am. Understanding, loving, and hilarious, which is so rare to find these days!!'
She goes on to say how she felt that: 'God saw the desires of my heart and blessed me with Christopher.'

Laughed it off: According to Christopher, the couple just brushed off the negative comments
Following his girlfriend's post, support has poured in for Christopher, who wrote on his Facebook that he's received over 200 friend requests.
Speaking to People, Christopher explained the impact of the hurtful comments, saying that he and his girlfriend, who both attend Columbus State University, simply 'laughed' them off.
'People were saying she was too good-looking for me and that it looks like I have Down syndrome, he said. 'Some comments said there was no way I could be her boyfriend and they made fun of my weight.
'When we looked at what people were saying, we laughed,' he added. 'We both have the mind-set that that we understand who we are as individuals and what we have for each other.'
As for the wedding? Christopher claimed he is 'excited' but that the pair will have to wait until after college.
I think they make an adorable couple. They obviously have a great time together and can both laugh. Personally, that makes for a better mate than someone who is fit but mean. And I dated a former body builder with some serious "guns" on him, and let me tell you, he was a royal jerk.
So we teach kids that they should ignore what's on the outside and focus on the person inside and then those kids are supposed to grow up and find a mate based on looks alone? Makes no sense to me.
People are idiots. It isn't anyone's business but the couple's. And I guarantee the people commenting are no buff Adonnis look alikes.

You do realize not everyone teaches their kids that. Some people outright teach their kids that fat people are bad or sub human. They are health nuts. And yes I said SOME. They will readily tell you they would not marry someone who is overweight because that person does not take care of themselves. Also, when I was dating I found that a large amount of military men were very body conscious. And other passively teach their kids that overweight or fat is wrong by the behavior they example in front of their children. If you, as a parent, openly call fat people names or say things like I wouldn't date a fat person, then you are modeling a behavior for your child. So even though some parents may say they teach their kids to treat everyone the same often their behavior belies that fact. And we all know that actions speak louder than words.

I wonder what the consensus would be if it were the opposite.
She was the big one and he was the pretty one.

I think people would be MORE shaming. Men get more of a pass on weight in our society than women do.

People are so nosy about other people's relationships.
They look at the surface and say "she's too hot for him, he's lucky to have her", but who knows if it's the other way around? Maybe she's high maintenance and plagued with MI and he's the only man on the planet who can deal with her issues. Then SHE'S the lucky one.
Or maybe they just love each other and that's all there is to it.
