More Than Half of New CA Driver’s Licenses Go to Illegal Immigrants

More than half of the new driver’s licenses issued in California during 2015 have gone to illegal immigrants.

“Of the 759,000 total licenses the DMV has issued, 397,000–or 52 percent–have gone to [illegals].”

The surge in illegal licensing is the result of AB 60–a California law that went into effect at the beginning of the year. The law allows applicants to get a license by “only [proving] their identity and California residency, rather than their legal presence in the state.”

According to The Sacramento Bee, the number of applicants is far exceeding the numbers discussed when AB 60 was being considered. Bill proponents predicted “1.4 million applicants over three years,” but they have already received “nearly half a million” applications in the first half of 2015 alone.

The California DMV was overwhelmed at first,  and applicants faced “longer wait times and had difficulty making appointments.” DMV spokesperson Jessica Gonzalez said, “It did take a little bit of time to get us acclimated, and now we’re seeing wait times trending down.”

AB 60 was championed by Democrats and “immigrant advocates.” The law is structured in a way that prevents the DMV from sharing information on illegals with agencies.
 
The bill’s chief sponsor–Assemblyman Luis Alejo (D-Watsonville)–responded to the massive number of illegals getting licenses by suggesting AB 60 makes California roads more secure. He said, “Our roads are now safer knowing 400,000 people who were likely already driving are licensed and insured.”

I would rather have them deported to Afghanistan, but since no one else seems to support that idea,

I think licensed and INSURED is a good thing.

Because we keep creating different classes of human beings in this country.  Used to be that Lady Justice was blind and the same laws applied to everyone.  Well, at least in theory but now, we are being divided into Tribes where all the tribes have different rules.

All you have to do is swear that you have insurance. You don't even have to provide proof. But if you get caught driving without it, there are consequences. That's why here, when the Somalis get into an accident they just get out of the car and run away. They abandon the scen completely and ditch the car. Often it isn't in their name so they don't care what happens to it. There is a huge backlash against them now because of this. And they are legal immigrants - they have been resettled here.

I had my car damaged sitting in front of our apartment. Called the police for a report for my insurance.

A neighbor saw who did it.

The officer said I could press charges but it wouldn't do any good.

Said they would disappear.

He was right.

They were gone 2 days later.

Been in two fender benders. Both times they caused the accident.

Both time they were uninsured, no license, and illegal.

I do not see what difference it will make. They will drive with or without a license.

As far insurance, I have never lived in a state that required insurance just to have a license. It was required when you registered the car.

The Russians have been pretty effective at shooting down unauthorized planes in their airspace. We might run out of pilots.

Remember my friend that was living here? We MADE her get insurance on her car when she moved in with us. She kept it one month and then stopped paying. After she moved out she got in an accident, her fault, and didn't have insurance. Cops didn't even write her a ticket.

I was once so poor I could not afford car insurance. It happens. It would have meant the difference between us being able to eat and not being able to eat. So we had to skip it. We didn't have cable either then, or cell phones (it was back in the day). But, knowing I didn't have insurance, I drove routes that I knew were safer, less travelled, etc. And as soon as we could afford it, we started buying it. When we registered our cars each year all we had to do was swear to the person at the BMV "yes I have insurance". Well who wouldn't just lie?!
