I love Amazon but I thought the $99 was too expensive so I had decided to not reorder. I then sent them an email simply stating that I have shopped there for years and in case they have noticed, I have stopped purchasing from them since the Prime price went up. I really dont' care about all the other offerings like movies, etc. I really only care about the shipping. Anyway, I thought that was the end of it but the decided to send me $50 toward the price of the Prime. They just plopped $50 on my CC. I have an Amazon Chase card. And, DS started to college this year, so I was able to use his Student ID and get Prime for $49, i.e. Free. So, I already started ordering stuff again. I ordered 2 new sheet pans and a wallet.
I want PRIME. I read way too much. But DH has prime as a teacher and doesn't want to have two. And my kindle cannot be tied to his kindle. I may just get it anyway.

I may do it again closer to Christmas.
Oh and that's awesome, LGS.

We are 45 minutes away from the closest mall. We only have a Walmart and a Target in town. Nothing else. There is a Joanne's, but it is small and nasty. Prime is a lifesaver. Worth every cent. We actually ordered a mattress and had it delivered. It was awesome.

Sounds like my town. Except no Target or Joann Fabrics.
One thing about online shopping though. If we hurt the local stores, then there are less jobs and tax revenue locally. So, that isn't something to take into account. I mean, it is very convenient to shop online. And, there is a lot of stuff I can't get around here for sure.
I love love love Amazon! I love them so much! Me and my husband both have separate accounts. Mostly because I don't want him to see all of my purchases ;) I'm bad.

Well, the Amazon warehouse in Chattanooga is always hiring.
So keep ordering!

I see online shopping as helping local businesses. Sure, the big store chains will scale back brick and mortar but the small specialty stores, boutique kind, will see a resurgent. I hate going to the Mall and If I have a last minute gift item or and last minute purchase to make I would rather go to a local small store as opposed to a mall.

Just making a point. I live in a small town. And, if our businesses fold, then we lose that revenue to the borough and school districts. However, you can't stop progress. And if online shopping is now the model, then it is what it is and others around have to adapt. I don't believe in propping up things doomed to fail unlike the Govt. We have to allow the market and business cycles to address and adapt. And yes, some jobs will be lost but others gained as new businesses spring up to fill those niches.

I can't remember the last time I was in our mall.
I mean it. It's been years.

Well, malls have a problem. They have changed with the times. I like a good mall, but what makes a good mall is different today than it was when we were kids. And our mall? Once Borders closed, there was just about no reason to go. Occasionally, I'll go to an anchor, but I don't have to go into the mall to do that.

Well, one of the reasons i stopped shopping at malls was the rise of the big box stores, which have SHOPPING CARTS. I want to shop with a shopping cart. If i have a coat and purse and have to lug that around, then if i want to select merchandise and have to hand carry it, it is a big PIA. I have often said this to mall workers but of course they just shrug like they don't care. Well, fine. I will either shop at big box where i have a freaking cart and can FILL up my cart, hello, isn't that the point dumbarse mall store owners? Or, i can shop online.
And, i tend to buy a lot when i shop. I don't care to shop that much but when i do i usually buy an outfit, shoes, and a lot of other things. And, carrying all that around without a cart is annoying. So, fine, i just usually leaves. I would buy a heck of a lot MORE if it was convenient for me, which it is not.

Oh, but you can RENT carts at the mall. This is why I liked my stroller, btw. Your point is well made.
I'm annoyed by all the sales carts through the middle of the malls. You can't walk from store to store without being accosted by someone wanted to sell you their stuff or try this lotion or whatever. And they take up too much room, making it crowded to walk.

The carts at the mall are crap. The carts they have at bon ton are these fabricy stroller like stupid arse things. And, they make small metal carts that aren't as wide and dont' take up as much space. They have them at the grocer. And, yes, they would redo the layout a bit to make it convenient to push carts around. But, like i said, if they don't want to make it convenient to shop there, then fine, i will shop elsewhere to someone who will will. I buy a ton of stuff at Walmart that i could get other places but Walmart makes it convenient and easy for me. So, ok, i will give my money to them if you don't want it.

I try to have a man with me when I go to a Mall so he can carry the bags and run them out to the car. When I was growing up, that was my brother's job. My dear friend who passed away recently used to do that for me, too. He loved shopping with me and my girlfriends. Now, DH does it. I'm teaching the boys to carry bags for me, too, so that someday DH can pass the torch.
I have had the Prime forever, and just noticed it went to $99. then I got a generic mailer to resident at *my address* offering it for $69 to new customers hum
so I called their customer service and explained how long I had been a good customer (check my orders LOL) and that I was concerned that I, a loyal customer was being charged $99 when a new person was getting the benefit of $69??? It did not seem to make sense to me, I pondered *aloud* should I cancel and re-sign up??? or just drop Prime and using Amazon as much....
Well it ended up that they also gave me a $50.00 credit on my account (I was surprised at the amount and did not expect that much if anything). But all in all it was a positive experience and I continue my BFF status with Amazon. WE live rural and every time a UPS truck goes by my husband *assumes* it is my order! It often is

I signed up for Prime at $69. I'm not looking forward to paying the $99 at renewal. But I'll probably do it. Sigh.
After mine lapsed and I saw it was $99, i didn't reorder it. I just waited to do super saver shipping and orders over $35 and so forth. i mean, i really don't need most stuff to come in 2 days. I can wait so it was fine. And, finally, i figured i would just email them and say "hey do you see how little shopping i am doing now?" Cuz i have been online buying on Amazon since the internet went up. Anyway, I didn't even ask for a discount or anything. I just told them i thought $99 was too pricey. Anyway, the immediately credited my cc $50 and said, if you like, please renew now and therefore it will cost you only $49. Well, then I realized my son is in college and students get Prime for $49. Sooo, i got the $50 credit on my cc, then i went and bought the Student membership for $49 so they paid ME $1!

I love Prime. I don't have many shopping options here. The big one I'm missing is a bookstore. It's nice to order a book and not have to worry about how much I order. And it's here in two days. I also love Amazon wish lists. I have one just for books, whenever I see a book that interests me, I put it on my list. When it's time for a new book, I've got all kinds of choices.
