I've been happily using my employer's smart phones for 7 years, and I know that I will, at some point, retire and leave their employ.
So then I will want another smart phone.
I do NOT want to be paying $40 to $100 per month for a phone/smart phone plan.
My cable company is pushing a smart phone with unlimited text data and talk ... for $9.95 per month.
The limitation is, it only works when it can access wi-fi.
That's fine at home, but I don't have a clue whether it would work anywhere else.
They say they have over a million "hot spots" but I don't know that the phone could connect to most of them. Like, I have a "hot spot" in my house, but no one can access it unless they have the password.
If most of their "hot spots" are like mine, that's pretty much useless.
Any ideas? Does anyone have experience with something like this?

Republic Wireless. Perfect if not needed for work. I've been using it for years and I pay $26 a month which includes cellular data. DH pays $11 for unlimited talk and text and only internet over wifi. It also talks and texts over wifi, which is great when you don't get cell service at your location, but have wifi.
