We have a Vent and a Happy thread.  We need a proud thread.  I will start. biggrin

"Did any of you get caught in the traffic yesterday morning on 128 S in Lexington? Bad accident. black BMW slammed into a mazda, mazda flipped and was wedged under the guardrail, BMW flipped a few times (no not me). Guess who was behind them, pulled over, called the cops, and took a crow bar to the BMW because the driver was stuck, doors wouldn't open and pulled the driver out. Then went to the mazda to see if that driver needed help DS! And he waited for the cops then went off to work..."

That is a copy of an IM I sent to my former colleagues who be stuck in traffic on that highway do to the accident.

Anyway I was talking to him tonight and he "mentioned" this. Hello DS???? That is a big deal.

So the point of starting the thread is that I am proud of what DS did but also thought there must be tons of Geek proud moments that should be posted here too.

MM? Your DD abroad and winning games?

Others?

Something I'm proud of is how much DH has grown since I met him. FIL purposely crippled DH as far as becoming an adult was concerned. Among other things, he did not know how to think for himself and reason out a solution. Now he does for the most part. He can figure out ways around an accident without having to pull over and call me. He recognizes landmarks and uses them to orient himself. He doesn't quite get the grid system we have here yet for our roads but he's getting there.

When I met him, he could barely go a mile from home without freaking out thinking he will get lost. Now, I can send him on errands and know he'll be fine. Hopefully, he will get to the point where he can drive anywhere in the Valley alone without getting lost.

My son came home with a little squirrel in his shirt. I couldn't do anything for it, but it seemed sick. He took it to the vet and paid with his own money. When it recovered (severe dehydration), he set it free in the park.
This weekend he's participating in a classic car meet to raise money for the Childrens' Hospital.
I raised a fine young man.

I'm proud of the Mayor of Chattanooga.

Tomorrow is the first funeral for one of the Marines killed. The Mayor has declared the funeral site, route and burial site a protected memorial area which makes it illegal for protesters to be there.

Proud of DD and the team she is on. They have made it to the semi finals Friday! She is far from home, playing with a bunch of girls she doesn't know very well and has been made captain! She is really blossoming into an amazing young woman.

That is an awful lot for an adult to learn in a relatively short amount of time.  He had to break a lot learned barriers.  Good for him.

another instance in memory was the tragic murder of a couple of Amish children and how local law enforcement, sheriffs deputies, highway patrol, etc. from all over the state, lined the funeral route, many of them on horseback, and prevented the media circus / gawkers from intruding on the Amish's grief and dignity--kudos to those folks for stepping-up as well

That is very sweet, Welts.  We need more kids in this world who have been taught kindness and compassion instead of selfishness and mean-spiritedness.

My newest hero.  I just had to look him up.  He looks young in his picture but I put him in his mid-forties by his bio:

Thank you, Honey's.

Just last week, he risked his life to rescue a cat on the highway that was hit by a car. The cat died in his arms, but then a homeless man came running out from the abandoned motel by the side of the road. It was "his" cat, and the guy was distraught. My son sat with him for half an hour and hugged him while he wept and wept. He missed an important business meeting to promote his product, but "this was more important."

He'll never be a raging financial success, but he's a really decent human being.  What more could a mother ask for?

Please pass the tissues.  That is so the right thing to do, Weltz
