Reminds me of something I saw two weeks ago. Drunk starts crossing the road but only gets half way. Drunk leans on the front of the car and stays there. After about a minute cop gets out of police car the drunk was leaning on and arrests him.
I have a smart key. It's usually in my pocket. If I get out of my running car and someone drives off in it it will shut off in a few feet.
Not if it's a Toyota.
As a safety measure, they build them so they won't shut off unexpectedly. I can park at home, leave it powered on, go in the house and come back the next day.
If it hasn't run out of gas, it will still be running.
One time it was in Valet Parking at a hospital for a couple of hours. They parked it and left it running.
When I came back, the guy handed me my key and pointed toward the car.
Guess what was already running ...
go ahead, guess.
Other manufacturers' cars might do the same thing. You might want to test yours. Park it, lock it with the key from the outside, and walk a couple of hundred feet away.
When you get back, let us know whether it shut off or was still running.

Sometimes you're the windshield, and sometimes you're the bug.
I have a smart key too. It won't shut off automatically. It just won't start up again once the theif turns it off. I think I read that shutting off automatically is a safety hazard. Don't want to shut off on the highway etc.
