I need an inexpensive gift idea for R's daughter.  A "just because" gift.  Can you guys give me some ideas?  I have NO idea what kind of music she listens to, though I know she listens to music all the time.  She isn't into makeup.  Help!

Bath and Body shower gels and lotion.  Pretty journal and pens.

I agree with the Bath and Body Works stuff. They have a fragrance called Sweet Pea that is perfect for 16 year olds. My DDs still love it...

My niece loves movie tickets. My mom always uses Fandango that way she can use them at any theater she wants.

I like the new one called Beautiful Day.  Sweet Pea is really sweet.  My favorite is Flowering Herbs, but it's not in the stores anymore, you have to order it.

What do 16 year old girls like? 17 year old boys!

Let's see.... Caitlyn liked accessories, earbuds, phone cases, scarves, ear rings, braclets.

Is there a Hot Topic near you?

They have all kinds of fun stuff.

And I like some of the smell good lotions and such, but not everyone can use them. I can tell you how many bottles and tube of that stuff we either threw or gave away cause Caitlyn couldn't use it.

iTune card might be the winner!  I know she keeps trying to get his wireless speaker away from him so she can have it in her room at her mom's.

Thanks Geeks... as I get to know her better, I'll find out what scents she likes.  I love the Bath and Body idea but don't know what her preferences are.  I'm super picky about personal scents and she might be as well.

yes something not too personal, but that she can pick her personal songs...my girls are 18 and 20 and so I know at her age the iTune card would have been a hit!

At Walmart, they have Hallmark bracelets that are very similar to Pandora. I got one for my daughter for Christmas last year. But, a really great gift would be a gift certificate for a manicure, pedicure or something like that. All the girls around here seem to love that.

I would go with either the itunes or a mani/pedi. I love bath and body but some people don't like the smells. I have allergies so when people gift it to me I have to either return it or regift it.

Maybe you can find some wireless spears for her! We bought DN a little duckie. You hooked the main unit it to the phone and the little duckie floated in your bath or shower and played music off your phone. The duck was waterproof. The phone stayed on the counter.

Definitely the iTunes gift card. That's what DD17 would want.

Do people still use itunes? My kids use Spotify and another online provider.

Yes. Those other services are like the radio - you don't pick what's played, you just pick the type of music played. If you want to own a song to listen to it whenever you want - it's iTunes.

 Humph. Ok.

They each have ipods. But they use their phones more than anything.

Caitlyn uses itunes for soundtracks. She can plug her ipods in at church when she is using can music instead of live.

You can listen to it for free. But you can't own it for free. If you want the new song by Beyoncé to be able to listen to on demand, you need to buy it. You can stream it on other services but you have to wait for it to come on, just like the radio.

Spotify Premium is 9.99 a month and with that you can listen to songs on demand. But if you don't have the premium service you have to buy the song. And they do that on iTunes. Plus, you need to be on wifi to use Spotify. If you buy the song on iTunes, you don't need wifi.

I don't agree with piracy. But I remember waiting for a song to come on the radio so I could record it. And if one of my friends or I bought a tape, we would make copies for who ever wanted them.

Make sure she has iTunes before going that route. Not everyone has it.

The bolded makes me think she'd like a speaker of her own.

Gosh I've learned a lot - thanks, Geeks!!  I'm thinking of texting her and asking if she has an iPod and iTunes - I think she does but I'm not positive.  I like the idea of a wireless speaker, too.  He's bringing her over for dinner tonight and I wanted to have a little something for her.

Geeks rock!
