Husband surprises his wife by revealing that she's pregnant after doing a pregnancy test without her knowledge - when she failed to flush the toilet

  • Sam Rader, 29, found out that his wife Nia, 26, was pregnant before she did because the mother-of-two doesn't flush in the middle of the night
  • He broke the news to her on camera - and Nia was both shocked and thrilled
  • The Wills Point, Texas, natives are planning to share their pregnancy journey on their popular YouTube channel

One happy husband had already experienced the excitement of learning his wife was pregnant the traditional way - straight from her mouth - twice. So when he thought they might be expecting a third child, he decided to turn the tables.

Sam Rader, 29, and his wife Nia, 26, were high school sweethearts from Wills Point, Texas, who are now raising two children and sharing their lives on their popular YouTube channel.

So when Sam decided to surprise his wife with news of her pregnancy - by surreptitiously doing a pregnancy test after she left the toilet unflushed - he didn't hesitate to share the moment with the internet.

My turn! Sam was excited to get to be the one who found out about the pregnancy first this time

'I've got some big plans this morning,' Sam whispers to the camera at the beginning of the video, which has already earned over half a million views since it was posted on Wednesday.

He's standing in the couple's bathroom, carefully keeping his voice low so his wife won't  hear what he is doing.

'So I had this dream about announcing Nia's pregnancy to her,' he says. 'I wanted to find out before she does. And last night, at 1:30am while I was at work, she randomly texts me and says that she's two weeks late.

'All night long, Nia goes pee throughout the night. She has a bladder the size of a golf ball. And she doesn't flush the toilet at night because she's afraid she'll wake up the baby,' he explains.

Because Sam has just gotten off working a night shift, he's been able to get to the toilet before Nia is able to flush it that morning, telling the camera: 'So here I am, I'm so excited - I have a specimen. I knew it would be there.'

He then gestures to the toilet, which indeed has urine in it. Sam admits that he's not sure if any pregnancy hormones in the sample will register on the test because it's diluted by water, but he's brought one home and is ready to try it.

'This time around, I'm gonna be doing the announcement,' he says with clear excitement. 'I hope so bad she's pregnant.'

Sam takes out the test and drops a sample of urine from the bowl onto it. He watches as the indicator turns pink, quickly revealing that Nia is, in fact, going to have a baby.

After collecting his thoughts, Sam leaves the bathroom and walks down into the couple's colorful kitchen, where Nia is wearing a red polka-dot robe and serving breakfast to their two children, Symphony and Abram.

He's got a secret: Sam kept hinting that he knew something that Nia didn't, but the bemused mom just laughed

He procrastinates for a few seconds, seemingly giddy with excitement as he builds up to the moment. Nia asks him several times what he's doing as he walks around the kitchen filming her and their children.

Sam then starts to drop hints. Nia goes to the cabinet to get jelly, and Sam asks her if she's getting wine.

'Oh, that's right, you can't have wine,' he says, before telling her she could make a bologna sandwich. 'Oh, that's right, you can't have bologna.'

Nia seems increasingly confused and bewildered by her husband's behavior. She talks into the camera, addressing the couple's YouTube subscribers: 'He's full of bologna, you guys - he doesn't know what he's talking about.'

'Oh, I don't?' asks Sam, laughing. After Nia tells him that she hasn't even taken a test yet, so she can't be sure that they are expecting, Sam rushes out of the room to get the one that he just used. He hides it in his pocket and asks Nia to take it out.

So exciting: Nia was totally shocked when she learned the truth, as the couple had been trying to get pregnant again for a while

'You brought a positive one home? You're such a dork!' she says. 'You're hilarious... you're pregnant?'

One of their children, though, is having none of it, saying: 'You're pregnant, daddy? Daddy, only mommies get pregnant!'

Finally, after Sam insists that the test is real, Nia asks him if he got a dropper of pee out of the toilet. When he confirms that he did, she freaks out, excitedly asking him several times if he's serious.

'This isn't fair!' she says, adding that she had plans for how she was going to tell her husband when she learned that she was pregnant.

Nia says that she hasn't had any morning sickness yet - as the couple's daughter can be heard telling their son in the background that he is going to be a big brother.

'The baby will have eyes!' the little girl says. 'There's a baby in her tummy!'

'I was starting to get a little worried that we weren't going to have another one, because it's been a while since we haven't used protection,' Sam says. 'I just feel so incredibly blessed.'

The couple tells viewers to keep checking back for more videos with updates on the pregnancy's progress.

'This is gonna be awesome,' says Nia

It is cute.

But I could have done without the unflushed toilet picture.

It's sweet.

I think it is staged so it isn't real, so there is nothing "sweet" about it.

It's meant to be entertaining.

Is it entertaining?

This is just weird. I don't think I would appreciate it if Husband did this to me.
I also wouldn't enjoy having videos of our family posted on YouTube, so different strokes I guess?

If it's brown flush it down, if it's yellow, let it mellow.

If someone gets up in the middle of the night or early in the morning while someone is still sleeping, we don't flush. Flushing has a tendency to wake people and we are being courteous. The boys figured this out on their own and don't flush if we are still asleep. Otherwise, everyone flushes and puts the lid down.

I'd be embarrassed that the whole world knew I didn't flush the toilet. They have some serious plumbing issues if the flushing toilet wakes the baby.

Really?  I can't hear my toilets flush.  Maybe the newer ones are quieter like dishwashers are.  IDK.

Mine aren't terribly loud, but enough to wake someone up.

Kids will learn to sleep through whatever they need to sleep through. The worst thing you can do is start tiptoeing around the house when the kids are asleep. They will learn to sleep with the noises of the world around them if you let them.

I love your Avatar and tagline, LGS.

Yeah, I know they learn to sleep through noise. It's just the way I was raised. We didn't flush unless we wanted to wake them up. It became a joke. Christmas morning when mom & I wanted to wake up the guys so we could open presents, we'd flush the toilets.

When my kids were young, not babies, and we lived in cheap government housing the toilet was directly behind their heads when they slept. With a cheapo wall in between of course. That's when I learned not to flush at night. The habit has stuck with me. Toilets flushing in our house now don't bother me. Just out of habit I don't flush at night. I dunno. I don't find it strange. I don't think what he did is strange either. Sappy and cute but not strange. Not my cup of tea either. I won't be following them or anything. But more power to them. They sound like a decent couple.

We don`t flush pee every time when we're up at the lake house.
Septic tank and well issues.

When we were house shopping, some of the houses we saw had septic tanks. (One had a well, but it was only for watering the HUGE back yard.)

I grew up with city water and sewers, and I'm happy to have both now.

DS1 lives in a house with a septic tank.

There are issues and restrictions.

Have always had a septic tank. We have two now.

We have never flushed at night. It's how I know if something is wrong. If the toilet flushes during the night, someone is usually sick.

We don't flush at night either. Not because of DS. Because it makes enough noise to make me fully awake and then it takes me a good hour to fall back asleep.

I thought the OP was sweet.

DH saw the pregnancy test turn positive before I did. I was already back in bed before the test finished processing. I already knew I was pregnant and didn't need the test to tell me. I had to stop DH from calling everyone at 0500.

I hope that's the only reason one of my kids would call me at 0500 ..

but I do get texts and email messages from some of the people at work at that hour. And they're usually from people in Illinois (home office). Where they're in a different time zone, so it's 0400 for them.

They suggest that I just shut off my phone at night so it won't beep ...

But that's the phone my kids use to call me, and I never turn it off.

Back to the OP,

I'm surprised that the concentration of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin in the toilet would be strong enough to trigger a positive test.

A lot of factors play into that. How much she's had to drink, how many times she pee'd, and other things.
