Morning. Again.

It's steamy hot. Again.

The heat isn't the problem. But the humidity will smother a body.

Oh well.

Man, it's early.

Mid 80s and sunshine today.

Schoolwork today. One class done, two to go. One large project and two finals. My brain will be fried!

Had a really good time and the weather was beautiful. The Mainers kept saying they'd never known it to be as hot as it was. We were out on the water almost every day. And found some amazing restaurants!! Did a foodie tour as well as going whale watching. Shame it's over. But I am going to the UK next month to spend a week with my mum - 97 and going strong!!

You should!  It is so pretty and everyone is so helpful!  Loved living up there.  I lived in Ogunquit.  Google it.  That is about an hour from Portland.  Google my hang out spot.  Barnacle Billys.

Can you recommend some? I'm in need of some new detective fiction now that I'm up to date on the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths. Thanks.

Have you read any Tess Gerritson?  She does the Rizzoli and Isles books and some others.

Have you read any Karin Slaughter novels?  They go in order but can be read stand alone.  Better to start at the beginning though.

I also love Lee Childs Jack Reacher books

Harlan Coben books with Myron Bolitar

Try anything by Nora Roberts. They are kind of a cross between a romance and detective book. She specifically has a three book series set in Maine though. One is called Sweeping Tides or something like that. I could look it up if you want.

The ones I suggested don't take place in Maine. They are just good thriller, mystery or murders.

Carl Hiaasen's books are great.  Read Bad Monkey.  I believe that is his most recent.   Detective Yancy is awesome and hilarious. biggrin

Thank you all for the recommendations. I have to leave the office now and will be off-line for a while. But I really appreciate all the suggestions. Think some of the Nora Roberts are appealing to me most at the moment. Looking forward to having some time to myself to check them out!! Bye for now.

The Back Porch in Oguanquit is devine. Great restaurant. Only drawback is all the gorgeous waiters are gay. They have a fantastic piano bar!

My brain hurts. So much learning at work. They have quite a few processes that are not working that I will need to streamline and also align with business goals. There is a lot of "happy hippy" says of doing things and the GM wants to drive business first and be a "happy hippy" second so there he supports all the things I am looking to do. This will be quite the challenge.

I ate a gluten free cookie today. It was delish. I also ate a chocolate bar made from "shade grown" cacao. Apparently growing the plants in the shade is better for the environment. Who knew?! Lol

Gluten free is not all bad MM. As we have learned it varies from "tastes like dirt" to "delish".

Some plants grow way better in the shade. It's called companion planting. For instance, there are some plants that give off smells that drive away bugs from another plant. Best natural pesticide you can get. There are all kinds of companion plants.

Most of Stephen King's books are set in or near Castle Rock, Maine.

Does that help?

Michael Connolly is great. Harry Bosch is the detective in the books. If you like who done it police thrillers, he's good.

I'm more of a Coontz fan. I like the ones that are a bit scary.

Today is the first day of the Obon Festival which is Buddhist. During a 3 day period (13, 14, 15th of August) the dead come back to check on us and see how we are doing and if we are living, etc., as we should. Most people have a 3 day holiday at this time from their companies but as modern times catch up it is not practical for some companies to close for 3 days. Those employees have alternate holidays usually know as Summer Holiday. Depends on the company but ranges from a minimum of 3 days up to 5.
