The “victim” (we prefer “hero”) was pulling up to the main entrance gate to his apartment building when he was attacked by a 15-year old and 17-year-old Anthony Evans-Warner.

“The suspects were unfamiliar with the operation of a standard transmission and they tried to get the victim to show them how to drive the standard while he was being held at gunpoint,” Inspector Stefan Happ said.

The carjackers then went on to try and get the victim to show them how a manual transmission worked while they had a gun pointed at his head. They eventually told him to get out of the car a few blocks from the original site. The victim called the police and they responded, pursuing the vehicle, which the carjackers could barely operate.

“A vehicle pursuit was initiated,” Happ said. “The officers were chasing the vehicle and apparently they had issues operating the vehicle. They then jumped out of the vehicle and ran on foot.”

Both of the suspects were arrested and the car was returned.

Evans-Warner is in jail charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

The 15-year-old suspect was also arrested, but his name isn’t being released because of his age.
