Facebook Is Finally Making a ‘Dislike’ Button

This article was originally posted by Time:

After years of saying it wouldn’t happen

Brace yourselves: the Facebook “Dislike” button is coming.

Despite previously saying the social network wasn’t planning to build a “dislike” button, CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed during a Tuesday Q&A session that his company has indeed been working on one.

Great. More ways to create online drama.

I've seen the like and dislike buttons on other boards. I find it kind of childish. People should be able to give their actual opinion on something without using a button.

I deleted my account yesterday. Too much drama on there.

I think Facebook drama only affects anyone as much as they allow it to. You can hide feeds, unfriend people, etc. to keep the drama down to a minimum.

I was over the rants and add ons. I never posted a thing. I joined because a friend asked me to so I could see his pictures. Told him just text me!

I don't post all that often. I do like scrolling through the feed and seeing what people are posting. I've only ever been inclined to comment on that one really, really stupid birth control video post. Other than that, I like to save my arguing for you people.

I agree.  I admit that until I took a step back and thought about it, I got caught up in it for awhile.  Then I learned how to manipulate it.

This new button?  I think it will create more ambiguity and drama.  But it could be useful.

Yes.  No different than anything else.  I don't see a lot of drama on Facebook.  But, then again I dont' look for it.  I dont' post my political opinions on it or get into debates so maybe that is why.

I think y'all are missing the point of a "dislike" button on Facebook. Let's say someone posted that their dog died. You really don't want to leave a comment, but you want them to know that you saw it. Your only option right now is to hit the like button and well...that's just weird. So a dislike button would show that you don't like that their dog died...

It will not be labeled "dislike". They will probably have options such as "I;m sorry" or "that is too bad" or "I don't agree" it won't be dislike.

If someone creates drama on my page they get deleted.  It's as easy as that.  My kids share stuff with me.  I really love seeing pictures of friends babies and kids.  I have a church friend that's always posting recipes.  I've actually used some of them.  I like the funny meme's.  I really don't get into drama on FB and I rarely post about my own life.  Found that out the hard way.

No, they won't call it that.  They didn't do that from the beginning so to keep the drama down.  It will be something more tame with tame choices for emotion.

I admit I deleted a few of you way back when I didn't know any of you that well and there was some scare about someone who used to be here who was crazy and stalking geeks.

can count on one hand the times have ever looked at facebook--my lady, perhaps a few more than that--we have zero interest in the site/network nonsense--pretty much irrelevant to us
