Home remedies?

Lysol down everyone and everything.

Seriously though.

The best thing is prevention.

Wash hands frequently, don't touch your face.

Essential oil flu bombs at the onset of symptoms or exposure to someone else. And Airbourne used to help me a lot, too. Diffusing oregano oil can zap symptoms, too.

Tea and honey every morning. Extra vitamin C and zinc throat spray if I feel a cold coming on.

This trick works great for me but doesn't work for DH. I loathe having stuff on my feet so sleeping through the night doesn't always happen because I have to wear socks with the Vicks so it doesn't rub off on the bed.

When DS is sick, the Vicks plug-in works wonders for him. I didn't know they existed till NJN suggested it. He sleeps so soundly with it even when his nose is stuffy.

I just fired off a really nasty letter to Young Living yesterday.  I'm also a tried and true Vicks person.

We found ours at Walgreen's. It was $8 and change. We also bought a pack of the refills, which were about the same price.

Do not touch the Vick's pad you put in the plug in unless you want your fingers to smell like Vick's.

No Riding, you don't understand! DO NOT touch the Vick's pad. If you touch it wash your hands. Because if you touch your eye without thinking you'll probably go blind! I love love love those Vicks plug ins. They are great. I can't take over the counter cold meds so I use them. Put them right next to wherever I am sitting. They're great. DH says I make the house smell like a sick ward. And FYI, they work longer than the eight hours they say they do. I should be a Vicks salesman!

I am a big fan of Eucalyptus oil. You put some on a rag and put it in your room at night. The vapor of it really relieves congestion. My kids look for it now when they are sick. I got a huge bottle of it on Amazon. I like that better than Vicks.

I've never used any oils. I'm sure some of them help. I love Vicks and it's basically the same thing. I just can't get into the oils.

There's nothing to "get into". You just put some on an old washcloth and then it lingers for hours. Easy peasy.

Well, according to the oil people around here there is a lot to it. You have to buy THEIR diffuser because theirs is the very best top of the line. Then you have to buy all the oils and study which ones heal which condition.

I bought their diffuser and it went out after about a year. I bought a cheapie on Amazon and it's still ticking. The only part I miss was the auto-shut off after an hour, but it does shut off when it runs out.

I've never put it on a washcloth. Do you wet it first? How much do you put on it? I would think you'd need to really saturate it to get the smell to last the night?

well I better pay attention to this and I am prone for things to happen wink and I would touch MY and then touch my other eye.

I would so love your house when I have a cold, I also enjoy the smell of Vicks, my mom used to put a small amount around and just inside her nose when she was sick and she swore by it

Any time I ever used those vicks creams or plug ins, it made the kids worse and the seemed to develop pneumonia.

The ENT said not to use them, especially over night.

There is no vicks in my house. The smell repulses me. No clue why.

I love them.  I find them soothing.  I love the bath things too but they quit making them.  My mom used to always put Vicks in our vaporizer.  I've never had a problem with Vicks.  Not growing up and not as an adult.  And last year when I got a cold I used it 24/7 till my cold went away.  DH laughed at me until he got sick.  Then he stole my plug in for his side of the bed!

I understand that some people don't like the smell.  If that's the case it's totally fine by me.  I would never force it on someone.  I find it soothing though.

That's because they are part of a MLM (Multi level marketing) and their goal is to sell. You can buy your own oils from Amazon or most health food stores and they work just as good (probably better).

Last night there was a lady online just totally ripping apart and bashing any product that wasn't a Young Living Oil.  Claiming that the other oils put chemicals in it that will kill you.  I also saw one lady say to another that if he truly loved her family she would put out the money for Young Living Oil and not the cheap stuff.  Another time I had one of those Young Living Oil people tell me their oils cure cancer.  I won't buy their oils now just on principle.

Well, let me tell you...G and I have gotten all kinds of meds with DoTerra oils. My hot flashes have been contained. We are off melatonin. G had an ear infection and used the oils. We were BEYOND skeptical. But we have had such a amazing experience, he's sold. We are not holistic believers, but this has changed our lives. We are not selling, but we buy...

I think oils work. I just don't think you have to buy them from MLMs. But I have a problem with MLMs in general, so..

I am not saying they don't work.  And I think for some things they can work wonders.  I have a very strong peppermint bath bubbles that I use when I have a cold.  It clears me up.  I think SOME things oils can be effective on.  I most definitely wouldn't claim it cured cancer.  And my main problem is the pushiness with this company in particular.  Just because they are an MLM.

I love DOTerra as well.  I do not sell, just buy.   The flu bomb has saved me on more than one occasion.  And peppermint oil is great for muscle aches.  Even got my mom hooked.  I just love the scent of OnGuard.

That was the case for my boys, too, a few years ago.  I removed the humidifier from their room, too.  Creates an environment for dust mites.   I removed all plug-ins, stopped lighting scented candles, anything artificial.  The oils are fine though, and haven't had any adverse effects.
