Yeah, I could have gone with "scary" or "spooky," but it's just another day for me.

DH has to work. I'm trying to convince my body to feel better.

I bought new chairs yesterday. I LOVE them, but I'm having second thoughts b/c they are pretty big for the room I bought them for. Grrrr.

I think that I have enough for now.  I told DH that the we could split them up and put one in the family room and one in our bedroom and find something else for the living room.  He was not amused.

I have to go get gas. My fuel perks savings is up to $1.78 off per gallon. If I don't use it today I will lose .35 cents a gallon. Still in my jammies sipping coffee.

Do parents take their kids' loot to the hospitals to be x-rayed for razor blades and needles?

I remember that was a "thing" for a while. I also remember that no razor blades or needles were ever found that way,

and in the incidents where parents "found" sharps in candy, in each case the parents had put them there themselves.

Not sure why I am annoyed at this but I am. On a FB site for my town, a parent asks "What is the best neighborhood to take my kids trick or treating?" Why can't they stay in their own 'hood? We don't have any "bad" areas in town. I think I'm annoyed because I know people from surrounding cities carpool kids into my neighborhood. People will bring their kids to a condo complex because their kid can get a lot of loot in a short amount of time. When I rented in such a complex I had to save candy aside for the neighbors because of the hundreds of "outsiders" that came. What are parents thinking? That little Johnnie needs a ton more candy than he can get at home?

Morning.

Trying to decide what, if anything, to do today.

SB, are those Biloxi fuel perks? Our Biloxi was bought out by Food City. And everyone had a month to use their fuel perks or lose them. The new program is pretty awesome though. The points can be used as percentages off the grocery bill too.

Sonic has .50 corn dogs all day! We may take advantage of that around their happy hour. .50 corn dogs and half price drinks. That's a pretty cheap lunch.

It's raining. Big surprise. Not.

LL, a couple oversized chairs can make a room cozy. Sit with them for a while. I bet they end up being the family favorite sitting place.

Growing up, we didn't live in a neighborhood.  There was the house on our left that we could see and the house on the right was half a mile away. We lived on a major road so no neighborhood.

Lots and lots of rural area out here where the neighbors house is a dot across the field.

So, we went to a neighborhood in town.

And yes, we wanted to go to where we got the best haul.

Why not just shut the light off when you've had enough? Trick or treating is what Halloweens about. If you don't want them then it's an easy solution. I enjoy getting lot's of them and buying half price candy the next day isn't quite the same thing. Geesh...

We never have kids. We have such a small neighborhood and there are maybe only 5 in elementary school.

And half price candy the next day is saved for Christmas stockings!

I completely agree.  When I see carloads of kids I don't know, I know it's time to come in and turn off the lights.   I experienced more of that when I lived in a townhouse community.   Our homes are so far apart with long, steep driveways, it's not a 'hood that draws those kids but I have seen some after 8 PM on occasion.  I usually turn off the lights at 8 anyway.

I don't see why it matters where the kids come from.

Kids like me, wouldn't have had anywhere to trick or treat.

And what about the kids that live in bad neighborhoods? Shouldn't they be able to trick or treat in relative safety?

If you're giving out candy anyway, what difference does it make where the kids are from?

I don't care who comes to my door or why. I used to take my kids to neighborhoods a long time ago because we lived in apartments. People just didn't trick or treat there. I will hand out candy till I run out but in the six years I have been here I have never run out. So come on all you inappropriately dressed children. Come on all you pirates, ballerinas, Olafs, Anna's, Elsas, superhero's, and anything else.

I guess the issue I have is they come in carloads and trample over my plants and have no respect for anyone's property. And they come late at night.  And are 6 feet tall.

I do understand not wanting the yard messed up.

Maybe sit at the end of the driveway?

We will be sitting at the end of the driveway giving out treats and close off the gates to the yard. We will probably have over 200 tonight. I know some are coming from other neighborhoods. I know some from here will go elsewhere. We just have fun with it and I don't spend more than we care to spend.

We will also be across the street later in the evening enjoying the party.

Already ran our errands for the day and we will not venture out again today. Too many kids and potentially drunk people will be out tonight.

Ikwtdst, the neighborhood I grew up in had no neighbors close enough. We would often go to a neighborhood where we could actually trick or treat. If you don't want to give candy to someone then don't. No one is forcing you to give candy to anyone so I was just giving a valid suggestion.

flan. You use that phrase a lot. Why don't you actually debate rather than act like a passive/aggressive baby?

I don't care how old they are either.  I will give them candy.  As long as they are respectful.  I do get ticked when they throw candy wrappers in my yard.

I guess I'm pretty easy going when it comes to trick or treating. But for the neighborhood kids I always make special bags of candy and hand deliver them. Then the kids can still come and get more candy. I do know some of the kids here aren't allowed to trick or treat. I just take them candy.

My neighborhood isn't the greatest. I don't give out candy after 8 for my own safety. All the itty-bittys have come by that time. We usually don't get any k8ds.

Halloween has always been a strange thing to me.

I mean, what are some of the first things you teach your kid?

1. Don't talk to strangers
2. Don't take candy from strangers.

But once a year we dress our kids up and send them to strangers asking for candy.

Well, that is a "thing" around here. We used to live in the "northside". And, that was and is considered the place to go. And, the people who live over there make a big production out of it and really decorate their homes and so forth. Makes for a fun atmosphere.

DS must've tired himself out good last night at the Fall Festival. He slept for an extra 2 hours this morning. He did his best at the games and cheated at some (like putting the frisbee through the hole instead of aiming and throwing it through the hole) but he got candy anyway since the games were 'for fun' and not 'must get a certain score to actually win' games. Some games he was able to play correctly, like Spin the Wheel (he got the top prize in that one - an ice cream bar) and Plinko (he got a score of 10 so he got 10 pieces of candy). They had a fishing game in which the kids cast their hooks over a wall and someone on the other side put some candy on the hook. DS' face lit up when he brought his hook back over wall and there was a bag of M&Ms attached. He loves M&Ms! He managed to fill up half of his bucket with all the candy he collected. The highlight was the pony rides. If DS smiled any bigger, his face would've cracked! He absolutely loved the pony ride. The people in the area watching the pony rides all commented on how big his smile was.

My bad hip and knee are both pissed from all the walking last night. I'm so glad that I brought my folding chair so I could sit when needed. More trick-or-treating tonight. I bet I won't be able to move tomorrow.

Oh get this. MIL commented on the pic of DS in his costume. She said he should wear it for t-or-t. Yea, well, talk to your husband because HE is the one with the bias against the costume.

Because those are the time honored "rules" that most people understand. If you don't want to give out candy, turn out your light. But sorry, you don't get to control everyone who trick or treats in your neighborhood. Some will come from other neighbor hoods and some will bring friends, cousins, etc. So, either join in the fun or dont'. If you only want to do something for the neighborhood kids, then have a block party and invite the neighbors.

And the bolded is a legit reason for going to other neighborhoods, as well as Lily's question about kids who live in a bad area.  My issue is the attitude of the parents.  The question the person posed was not "what is the safest neighborhood" or " which neighborhood had the best decorations" it was all about the greediness.

I mean, what are some of the first things you teach your kid?

1. Don't talk to strangers

2. Don't take candy from strangers.

But once a year we dress our kids up and send them to strangers asking for candy.

Which is different from sitting on the lap of an old man in a gawdy suit how?

 That's strange too.

Insults okay since when?

I said you were acting like one, which you are. If you don't think typing "consider the source" to my posts isn't an insult then you're just lying.

To me, "consider the source" might be considered an insult, OR

it might mean, "that person's opinions seem to always be different than mine."

or

"This person's life experience is so different than mine that we seem to never agree."

 Yep, me too!

So far today, we've been visited by ONE group of 9 little kids, and about 6 adults.

We give each kid one nickel and 11 pennies, which are in little cups, and make a lot of noise falling into their bags or pumpkins.

The lady from the Postal Service told me that some people drop candy into her mail bag. I didn't have any candy.

I don't buy candy for Halloween, because it seldom lasts more than an hour in this house, no matter when I buy it, or how much.

You give as good as you get.

 Actually, I ignore he/she/it.

Actually, you don't ignore tiny.

I wish you would!

You go out of your way, to belittle her opinions, any chance you get, flan.cry

She does the same with mine and I haven't actually engaged Flan but once she she returned from her ban.

So. What source should we be considering?

or

"Oooo MOM !!! MONEY !!! "

I can't eithef. But I understand why people would, and do.

I think there are so many trunk or treats and stores giving candy, that people just don't go to neighborhoods like they use to.

Here anyway.
