Couple out trick or treating charged after fight in store, police say
Samone Sturgis and Daquan Rose, both of Far Rockaway, allegedly punched a deli clerk and stole packages of cookies on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015 when they became angry over the type of free Halloween treats the Inwood store had given out, police say.
A man and woman who were out trick or treating with two children were charged after allegedly punching a deli clerk and stealing packages of cookies Saturday when they became angry over the type of free Halloween treats the Inwood store had given out, police said.
Daquan Rose, 26, of 409 Beach St., Far Rockaway, and Samone Sturgis, 23, of the same address, were charged with robbery and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
They were both held on $3,500 cash or bond at arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead.
Nassau County police said the incident occurred at 3 p.m. while the two were out trick-or-treating with one defendant's brother, 10, and the 9-year-old daughter of a family friend.
Police said the group entered the Burnside Deli, at 267 Burnside Ave., and an argument began with the store's clerk over what type of Halloween treat the store was offering. Both defendants were asked to leave the store.
Sturgis became angry and began stealing packages of cookies from the counter area, police said, and when the clerk tried to stop her, both she and Rose began punching the employee in the face and then left the store. After the clerk followed the suspects into the parking lot, Rose picked up a piece of wood and threatened to beat him with it, police said.
The couple, along with the two children, then left. The clerk, who had suffered a cut on his eye, called 911.
Police found the couple a short distance away at Pearl Street and Rockaway Turnpike.
The children were released to an adult family friend.
I don't understand why adults act like this on Halloween. They're adults. Like I was saying on the daily thread, Halloween is for kids. It's ridiculous when adults act out of hand.

It's difficult to understand the mentality of an entitled thug, unless you are one.
I don't think we have any here.
